Wyndham Clark Wins Second U.S. Open After Battling Hostile Crowd

Wyndham Clark Wins Second U.S. Open After Battling Hostile Crowd

Wyndham Clark reflects on a dramatic U.S. Open victory: the nerves of sleeping on a large lead, crucial par saves, a bogey on 17, a huge approach on 18 and the emotional surprise of seeing his dad waiting on the green on Father’s Day. Clark called it a team win and credited everyone who helped him recover his confidence.

  1. All the ones booing are no better than the Wyndham that kicked a locker. Grow up people! Congratulations to him for truly outplaying the field.

  2. Regardless of feelings two US Open titles is no joke and no fluke. His name and game belongs among the elites of golf. Big time congratulations to Wyndham Clark.

  3. How disappointing to have a country club self absorbed temper-tantrum spoiled brat as national champion. Wondering how the Oakmont members feel about having their lockers damaged by temper-tantrum champion.

  4. Someone who was chirping Clark all day needs to come forward. Not saying anyone should dox them but one of them needs to show their face and take an interview. That was the most insane chirping I’ve ever seen for a golfer in major contention and if it’s only because he smashed a locker it didn’t seem fair at all to me. All these fans acting like they’ve never had a temper…lol. As far as I can tell he’s not saying he’s proud of it and I’ve seen much less self aware athletes get rewarded with praise from the crowds so I’d really just like to hear from one of these chirpers to see if there’s more to this story…

  5. I like him. Who knows, any of us could destroy an Oakmont locker if brain chemistry and life’s circumstances meet at a bad place. Sounds like he’s ok now. Good for him.

  6. I think NY should be done with major golf for a while. This one was kind of an embarrassment both in crowd participation and then the poor manners for the few that stayed to watch. Definitely not the best week for the PGA Tour or the USGA.

  7. Golf is a gentleman's game. It sets a standard for junior golfers and all youth on how one should conduct themselves. Wyndham Clark is responding as a gentleman. The fans on the course rooting against a player and being vocal towards the player show less than gentleman behavior as well as unsportsmanlike behavior and should be removed from the course and banded from future PGA events. These players are accomplished professionals and they do not deserve to have to confront bad behavior by the gallery that has been offered the privilege of being on the course to view this tournament in person.

  8. Ngl, I know people throwing clubs every other round. It’s sad but ppl do it, he’s on a bigger stage, made a mistake and has more than paid the price, dudes a dawg

  9. I’ve been team Wyndham for a long time and super happy he got it done. For those that cheer against him I encourage you to do a deep dive on his journey. Dude has been super open and vulnerable about his personal struggles and owns his mistakes like a man. Life is hard sometimes, golf is super hard most of the time. That Ping putter was on fire all week! 🏆

  10. Life is about learning and second chances….3rd and 4th chances not so much….so let’s see if he grows as a person. His golf is amazing. Tiger obviously still struggles

  11. I 100 percent agree with everyone who hates New York AND American golf fans and their stupid Howard Stern "Boba Louie"! BUT I BLAME THE PGA and LIV for not creating a policy of having officials throwing out these attention seeks fools. Also it's not fair to blame only New York fans, every tournament has at least one scum and the Waste Management in Phoenix is perhaps as bad but they embrace those dipshits.
Again, the PGA if they had any balls would stop this immediately.
So be prepared for the Americans who will travel across the pond for the Open next month to continue this attention seeking slogans.

  12. Golf writers need to stop asking him about the bad behavior of the crowds. It was largely due to the circumstances. He was playing with the fan favorite Scheffler who was going for his grand slam. Had he been playing with Rory or Sean Lowry the crowds would have rooted for him. Writers are suggesting Clark’s the problem. Bullshit.

  13. I am impressed with his class here and I am also glad he held on to win! I still remember Greg Norman had that 6 shot lead going into the last round at the masters so I sure did not want to see that happening again here. That 10th hole was key to me with that drive and then the chip got close so that birdie after the disastrous front 9 showed me he was not going to lose!

  14. For everyone who is dissing this guy cause he trashed a locker…talented people struggle to deal with their own emotions when they know they aren't performing to their capabilities. This guy is now a 2 time US Open champ that is no joke and no accident these US Open courses are set up to make the greatest in the world fail and you have to be on another level to overcome that. Tiger said the F word I don't know how many times on live TV and I don't remember anyone making him a pariah back then for his behavior because he was Tiger. Give Wyndam his flowers he has earned it 1 thousand percent.

  15. New York Fans never learnt a thing after Beth Page ! Good will always win over cheating Congrats Wyndham stood your ground played like a champ 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

  16. Incredible win, thoroughly deserved, the New York golf crowd yet again were a complete and utter embarrassment. The Open should keep New York area off the rota until they learn how to behave. Worst fans in the world.
