Struggling to get that crisp, solid strike with your irons? You’re not alone — most golfers chase “compression” without really understanding how it’s created.

In this video, I break down the ONE key move in your swing that guarantees a better strike and more compression. It’s something almost every golfer I’ve coached was missing — and once you understand it, everything starts to click.

If you want that pure, ball-first contact and the feeling of your irons finally working the way they should, this is a must-watch.

Learn the move. Train it correctly. Unlock a completely new level of ball striking.

  1. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't golf club manufacturers take this into account and create clubs that have a more closed face, so as to prevent the golfer themselves from needing to put their wrist in such a weak, compromised position? I mean, bowing your wrist feels so uncomfortable because it's not a physiologically strong position.

  2. Thats a great drill thank you ,i hit it straight but never get the distance i have to ,this will help me get the proper compression on my shots ,thank you so much

  3. Why not just start at address that way? Then you don't need to twist — it is already twisted at setup. Just swing and that's it. It works for me with an 8 and 9 iron. I'm working on the rest. What should be different with a driver? Anything? Do the hands not get ahead on a driver? Enquiring minds want to know?

  4. Why don't you just start with the hand forward at address with a square club face? That would spare you from bending the wrist at top of swing and avoid hitting left.

  5. I WISH one of my golf coaches would have told me this DECADES AGO!

I first learned this from a Michelle Low video (“Fix The Slice”) a couple years ago. She uses the analogy of a motorcycle throttle on the left hand (for right handed players), but we are SLOWING DOWN the motorcycle. Tom Saguto says we should follow Tom Rahm and bow the left wrist ( “Rahm-bow”… Rambo the left wrist).

For me, I think about keeping the club head square to the ball for as long as possible. I do that by bowing the left wrist during my takeaway and holding it through impact. It might be a little unconventional, but I’m striking the ball better, getting more ball-first contact, and taking divots after the ball more frequently. This plus keeping my right arm more connected to my ribs has completely changed my swing so I’m less over the top.

  6. I played the most magical round of golf last year in Florida. The idea popped into my head to try and "smother" the golf ball. That idea created the most well struck shots of my life, just hammering high draws, despite feeling like I was pounding the ball into the ground. Unfortunately, that trick has not worked ever since, and I have been searching for videos like this one. I really don't care about my score, I just love flushing iron shots.

  7. Chris, I have been trying to do that move but I like your idea of starting the twist move a bit sooner instead of right at the ball and it's working out well. thnx for the help and solid contact.

  8. What an overly complicated way to play golf. Consciously manipulating your wrists anytime during a swing is a great way to achieve inconsistency.

  9. Chris you probably should have explained that pending how strong your left hand grip is will determine what you do with your wrist. You can bow yours down because you appear to have a weak grip. But someone with a strong left hand grip can not bow it down like that or it will be way too closed.

  10. I just close the face at address and go from there….definitely compressing the ball MUCH more often, which is amazing, but I do have to worry about the left side of the golf course, which is something I never had to concern myself with before! At least I know what's happening when they go left…when my hands aren't in front and thus insufficient shaft lean

  11. Hey Chris – trying to think this through. You are changing the wrist angle at the top of the backswing from where it was at set up and at takeaway. Why not just set the angle you want at the top of the swing before your takeaway?

If the angle is going to change in the backswing, why fart around with it during the backswing, just get it set right from the get go?

Seems the most important part is from the top of the swing to follow through. Am I missing something?

  12. I've been playing golf for years, and this video finally made it click for me regarding wrist movement. Incredible explanation! Thanks Chris.

  13. Hmm… bowing the wrist at impact? Nope I really dont think thats the answer. It takes loft away – fine if you are a tour player swinging at 120mph but for mere mortals thats bad
