I think there is an extremely high chance the wingers are top line wingers, but I think there is also a very high chance that Reid and Carels end up top pair Dmen, but maybe not 1's. I understand the Stenberg talk, but there are so many that say "well Reid is going to college and can't help next year." And I just don't care about next year at all. I'm going to enjoy watching the season and hoping for playoffs, but I have 0 actual expectations of success in the end game. I want Reid to be a Shark long term, and what he or Carels can raise the delta of the team is just so much higher than what swapping one of our top 6 wingers for another.
I hope Toronto and Sundin choose Stenberg!
Yeah I mean wheeler was spitting facts. Our biggest advantage of picking 2nd overall is not having to such a risk like gambling on which Dman is going to hit. Stenberg seems to be a sure fire blue chip player. That’s what you want in a 2nd overall pick.
I don't know why so much has been made of Cassidy not being able to interview with other teams. He's still under contract with Vegas, getting paid by them. He signed the contract. He knew it had a pretty standard non compete clause. That's pretty common in business. If he doesn't like that he's blocked from interviewing, then he shouldn't have signed the contract with that stipulation in it. I doubt that his attorney didn't advise him on this detail.

I’ve been pounding the table for Stenberg ad nauseam— in a couple seasons from now, when the team is getting closer to reaching their true potential, make a similar trade as Montreal when they picked up Dobson.

Seems everyone thinks sharks need big improvement on D immediately. But what does FA look like in 27 and 28? Don't rush the build. Also, I would sure like that #2 pick back we traded for Sherwood. Last, I like the Pujois glass!
Every other team in the league is saying we cant have Stenberg because lol we need defense. That's not long term thinking. You have to take what's given to you when you can get it. Plus, the Sharks offense isn't as built as people think it is. Without celebrini, it's meh. He needs help.
I'm really surprised Scott said Reid AND Carels are better than Dickinson in their draft years. Dickinson was playing when the OHL was the OHL and not what's left after the NCAA exodus. Playing 30 minutes a night for the Hunters isn't a small thing, but I respect Scott Wheeler, so I'm not going to be hard-nosed about this. Too many people are sleeping on Dickinson's ceiling, considering he just turned 20.

Chase Reid stinks on defense though 😤 it’s why Verhoeff is the best D-man in the draft, and Reid is the best OFFENSIVE defender… but 3rd on my list… behind Carels. Makar, Hughes, Hutson, Slavin, Lacombe are luck of the draw 🍀 we got “mini-Huggy” in Cags, he just needs a full-season! We also want trees/carwash/defensive defenders! Re-sign Vinny D!!! 😊
I highly doubt the Sharks will be able to trade a forward or forward prospect that they have for a legitimate top 4 NHL defenseman on a Stanley Cup contending team. Sure, they will be able to trade for a defenseman, but likely a mediocre one.
Do this exercise: picture Stenberg on a division/west rival for 15 years, like Canucks or Blackhawks. Stenberg nightmare, McKenna double nightmare. Reid, who cares? In 5-6 years maybe, Carels don’t care.. can beat him. Verhoeff also no big deal!! So risk/defensively, draft Stenberg, or McKenna (less likely the Leafs pass him up) done ✅ hockey gods = Ivar, great pull on the repeat cup stat 🏆 go Pavs for the Maple Leafs 🍁 😅
McKenna and Stenberg are better prospects than Demidov in 2024? This is news.
If the Sharks take a D, you are going to have the EXACT same situation the hawks went through with Levshunov and Demidov. The hawks fanbase is still arguing over that pick 2 years later and probably will be for another 5 years until you know for sure what you have in both. I was team Levshunov and my reasoning was that if you have the chance to take a real #1 D, you take it. Period. You gamble on upside and trust your scouts. Not sure if the hawks picked correctly, but I think the pick weas the right pick at the time, even if it turns out they were wrong.
All that being said, if Grier's scouts think Reid or Carels is the guy, trading down a few slots is probably the play, maybe the hawks or Rangers. If they think Verhoff or Smits is the best D, you can probably trade down a few more slots after that. Just need to be careful not to go too far down.
25:50 Reid's value should be determined by how good of a defender he is. That's the main piece that Wheeler leaves out. If he is a 45pt – 50pt defenseman but he is a parking cone and ASS in his own end, you should take the 80pt wing. But if Chase Reid is a 45 – 50pt defenseman and he is also a suffocating shut down defender, that is WAY more valuable than an 80pt wing. Thats a Norris trophy caliber defenseman.

Guys, it’s a no brainer. If Sharks draft at 2, it’s Stenberg. Nothing more valuable than a de-risked prospect. Zero chance Grier “a noted gambler” someone who understands risk/reward, would take a gamble on a ? rather than draft an almost sure thing in Stenberg.
Where split from you guys is the assumption that the sharks need a superstar defenseman. Look at many of the top teams right now. Carolina, Vegas, Florida, etc. they have a rock solid 6, but no makar.
SJ Sharks should stick with Stenburg,. Stenburg is a stud! We can work on the defense on the off season. 👍
