Okanagan assistants cash cheques from golf tourney

A pair of local golfers cracked the top-30 and came home with paycheques from the PGA of BC Play Golf BC Assistants’ Championship June 9 and 10 at The Dunes course in Kamloops.

Connor Kozak, who works at the Okanagan Golf Course in Kelowna, shot rounds of 76 and 68 to finish at even-par 144, tied for 18th place. Kozak collected $287.50.

Kyle McMurphy of Predator Ridge Resort ended up tied for 27th in the field of 89 following rounds of 74-72 for a two-over score of 146. McMurphy pocketed $177.50.

The event was won by Carson Kallis of the Burnaby Mountain Golf Club. He took home the top prize of $5,000 following rounds of 66-67 for an 11-under-par score of 133.

Kallis was one shot better than first round leader Jordan Irwin of the Saratoga Beach Golf Course near Courtenay. Irwin shot rounds of 65-69, and won $2,700.

James Swan of Olympic View Golf Club near Victoria was third at seven-under. He collected $1,900.

Nicklaus Kennedy – one of the greatest first-name spellings for a golf pro – from Chase’s Talking Rock Golf Course, finished in a three-way tie for fourth place. He had rounds of 70-68 for a six-under score of 138. He earned a cheque for $1,283.33.

The PGA of BC’s 2026 golf schedule includes a stop in Vernon.

The Srixon/Cleveland Golf PGA of BC Club Professional Championship, presented by Nike Golf and Mobilicab, will be played Sept. 28 and 29 at the Vernon Golf and Country Club.
