  1. Why do players need 30 seconds at a set shot? How often are players standing about doing "nothing" for 25 seconds before finally starting their run up?

Give all players the same amount of time to dispose of the ball no matter where on the ground they are.

  2. The league has an umpiring ego problem. Just call the free kicks. Its not your job to assert yourself in the game. This is the outcome of patting umps on the back for the last 20years…They think they are bigger than the game now. They get to dictate to the game, what, who and where they see fit. Horrible

  3. The umpiring in the Essendon v Carlton game was the worst i've seen this season. The issue wasn't Harry Mckays shot at goal , it was the pathetic amateur level of the umpires across the whole game .. nearly every second center ball up resulted in a free kick to Essendon . The umpires falling over , near misses … 3/10 for trying but cmon lift your game .

  4. Anyway you look at that tackle, it's a dangerous one. We have been coaching that out of modern players, but now it's open slaver with a precedent set thanks to another Collingwood miracle tribunal escape. That tackle would be bad in MMA, BJJ, & Judo, but it's ok in footy ?

  5. I got a suggestion. In the last 5 mins,to avoid time wasters do this. If the player is in 60m range (marked by a dotted 60m line) then the ump asks him if hes having a shot. If he says yes then the clock is stopped. The game starts again from the time the player kicks the ball.

  6. Lyon still struggling in this segment. He wants the player to have full authority on what constitutes a โ€œset shotโ€. There will always be a grey zone. Maybe half back flank isnโ€™t grey. But 55/60/65/70. Grey will fit somewhere there and it should be an independent arbiter who decides whatโ€™s time wasting and what is legitimate. Not a player. And for what itโ€™s worth, every man and their dog knew that McKay wasnโ€™t seriously lining up for a set shot.

  7. frampton effectively had mihocek in a headlock and drove his head into the gound , if thats not a dangerous tackle ,
I dont know what is …imo

  8. Should be inside 50 you get your 30 seconds but you have to have a shot for goal at that point. No taking your 30 and then chipping it to someone else

  9. AFL rules today are a mess. Players ducking their heads and lowering their bodies to win free kicks has become a tactic, and a lot of that comes from the way the rules have changed. Instead of rewarding the player going for the footy properly, the game now rewards players who are smart enough to draw contact.

The 30-second set shot rule is another one that slows the game down too much. Footy is meant to be fast and free-flowing, not players standing around taking half a minute to have a kick.

People can say the game is growing, but show me the real stats. There are more games played each season, the Australian population is bigger, and yet the game still struggles to reach the same huge crowd numbers it used to. You donโ€™t see every big game pulling 100,000 anymore, even with massive fixtures like Anzac Day.

For me, the AFL has overcomplicated the game. Too many rule changes, too many grey areas, and too many players exploiting the system. The game was better when it was simpler, harder, and easier for fans to understand.

  10. Virtually every kick outside 50 where the player takes the full 30 second the player kicks for goal not pass. To say that mckay could not take a kick for goal at that distance is nonsense. He chose to pass rather than kick for goal and that should be a free kick against him from where he took the kick. Need to change the rule as it is a time wasting offence if he does not try to goal.

  11. How many acidental head clashes or heads hitting the ground have blokes copped weeks over? That deserved a week if so many other tackles have cost blokes a week or two.

  12. this is my favorite segment of the week and really deserves just a few more minutes to really get into what is supposed to happen vs what is happening on the field. I know for me, I replay Razor's holding the ball explanation each week in my head and don't get quite as annoyed. (still annoyed but just not quite as annoyed!)
