OakWing’s ‘Sink The Shot’ allows players to win cash prizes

ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB) – Golf is a game filled with challenges. At OakWing Golf Club, players are given the ultimate challenge, with the chance for a massive payday.

With the Sink The Shot Challenge, the course adds an extra way for people to have friendly competition. On the 17th hole, players can scan a QR code and decide how much money they want to wager on a hole-in-one chance.

OakWing Director of Golf Robert Randow said, “It’s unique, it’s a cool kind of feature, not something you see every day. Like, hey, let me see, maybe I can win $100,000. Maybe I can win $50,000, and it creates a little camaraderie.”

Cameras are set up at both the tee box and the hole to monitor players.

The idea comes from professional golfer Dan Erickson, who got the idea while playing the game overseas.

“Me and one of the other co-founders actually were playing professional golf in South Africa, and we had noticed on a lot of courses a similar thing was going on,” Erickson said. “We were just thinking, we’ve never seen this at a course in the United States.”

Sink The Shot has added over 20 locations across the United States, with part of the proceeds going to local youth golf programs.

“Being part of those local communities not only for the people entering, but the golf course too,” Erickson said. “They know they can make a difference.”

Randow shared his advice to players on how to approach the challenging 17th hole.

“Try to imagine yourself hitting the shot that you want to hit. Imagine the ball going up. Imagine it landing right where you want it to land and rolling up to the hole,” Randow expressed.

Nobody at OakWing has hit the jackpot yet on the 17th hole, so may odds be ever in the favor of Cenla players this summer!
