A charity golf day has raised more than £40,000 in support of a local youth organisation.
Kier, a UK infrastructure and construction firm, partnered with the Scottish Prison Service and 16 supply chain businesses to host the second HMP Glasgow charity golf day in support of St Paul’s Youth Forum (SPYF).
The event, held at Fairmont St Andrews, brought together organisations involved in the construction of the new HMP Glasgow facility, which will replace the 143-year-old HMP Barlinnie.
Kier has been engaging with SYPF since before construction began, with project team members volunteering locally.
Funds raised from the golf day will help keep the community centre running and support essential services for residents.

Matt Collins, operations director for Kier’s HMP Glasgow project, said: “As one of our closest community partners, St Paul’s Youth Forum delivers essential support to local people, and we’ve seen first-hand the difference its programmes make.
“Supporting their work is an important part of our commitment to creating lasting social value impact through the HMP Glasgow project.
“It was great to see such strong support from across our supply chain, with partners coming together for a great day and to help raise vital funds which will make a really positive local impact.”
The golf day followed a four-person Texas Scramble format and featured a prize ceremony and charity auction, helping organisers exceed their original fundraising target of £35,000.
Mick Stoney, project executive for HMP Glasgow and governor of HMP Barlinnie, said: “For many years, HMP Barlinnie has enjoyed a strong and much-valued partnership with St Paul’s Youth Forum, especially through our bike maintenance workshop.
“The HMP Glasgow project ensures this important relationship continues, strengthening our shared commitment to creating better opportunities for young people and families in the local community.”
SYPF, based in the Blackhill and Provanmill areas of Glasgow’s northeast, aims to tackle the effects of poverty through programmes focused on exercise, eating, education, and empowerment for children, young people, and families.
The organisation has long worked to improve the lives of people in northeast Glasgow, and the funds will support its continued efforts.
