Scottie Scheffler claimed that his swing was good, but results don’t lie.
During Thursday’s first round of the Memorial Tournament, Scheffler was caught in a hot mic moment venting at his caddie.

The outburst occurred on Muirfield Village Golf Club’s 16th hole, where Scheffler’s tee shot found the water left of the green.
The two-time Masters champion believed he had made clean contact with the ball, and words followed.
Scheffler fumes at caddie after wayward tee-shot
The American’s ire over his wayward shot was directed at his caddie, Ted Scott, with the conversation centring around the wind.
“I never thought that I was in the water,” Scheffler said at the tee box with his hand covering his face.

“I don’t know what to do. I can’t hear a word that you’re saying, I feel like that was a good shot,” he continued, now making his way toward the drop zone.
“Now I’m in the water. Because it came in out of the right. Absolutely flushed a 7-iron and we get the wind wrong, and I end up in the water.
“I don’t think you understand how frustrating that is. I thought it was a good shot. It really was. … Golly.
“I don’t understand what I’m meant to do. I don’t understand. I really don’t.
“I mean, it was five yards short of the green, flushed 7-iron, because it’s into off the right.
“Like there’s no way it could curve that much. … It’s so frustrating. … I’m hitting good shots and dropping. We cannot get the wind wrong.”

From the drop zone, Scheffler chipped it to 10 feet and two putted for a double bogey.
The conversation with his caddie continued on the walk to the green, and briefly after sinking the putt.
After the 16th, Scheffler birdied 17.
On said birdie, he caught a break when his second shot, from the right fairway bunker, kicked to a favorable position just off the right side of the green, before chipping in.
He then parred 18, finishing his opening round with a one-over 73, six back off the lead, held by J. J. Spaun, Tommy Fleetwood, Wyndham Clark, and Ryan Gerard, who are all on five-under.
The American duo of Scheffler and caddie Scott have worked together since 2021.
