The Clutch Pro Tour has been kind to Irish players this season and it looks like the final round of the Caddy Comps Championship will have an all-Ireland shootout with Paul McBride leading Alex Maguire and John Murphy by two shots heading into the final day at Gloria Golf Club.
McBride followed up an opening 66 with a fine 67 to reach eleven-under-par as he hunts his second victory on the mini tour this season.
Maguire and Murphy have also tasted victory on the Clutch Tour this term and both players share second on nine-under after rounds of 68 and 66 respectively.
McBride started poorly with two bogeys in his first three holes but roared back with three birdies in five holes to the turn. The Island golfer was in imperious form on the back nine with three successive birdies from the 11th and he bounced back from a bogey on 15 with an eagle at the par-5 17th to come home in 31.
Last week’s winner Maguire, had a topsy turvy round as he carded three birdies and two bogeys in his first five holes before adding a birdie on the 9th. He dropped a shot on 10 but picked up shots on 11, 12, 15 and 17 before dropping out of solo second with a closing bogey.
Murphy, who is enjoying something of a career revival, was level par after nine holes but roared home in 31 courtesy of four birdies to keep his hopes of a second win alive.
Irish players have on three times on the Clutch Pro Tour this season with the three mentioned above all chasing a second title in the final round as they look to push towards HotelPlanner Tour promotion.
Robert Brazill is plus three.
