Thanks to Kathy Shepley and Glen Beck, we have the results of the 2026 Fall River Get-A-Way Tournament. Ten four-person teams made up the field, with two teams missing one person, for a total of 38 golfers. The weather was nice, in the low 80s. Remember nice weather? Though we have had a couple of days here on the coast, where we played golf under a blue sky. Fall River is around a five-and-a-half-hour drive from the coast. I grew up in the small town of McCloud, about an hour west of Fall River, but there was no golf course in Fall River back then. The course was built in 1980. The event encompassed two days, Saturday and Sunday, with a Stableford practice round on Friday. The team placing first over the two days was team Glen Beck, Mike Godwin, and Kira Meade, with a team score of -37.
This team placed first on Saturday and third on Sunday. The second-place team was D.D. Weller, S. Gonsalves, Rick Swanson, and Sara Hunt, with a team score of -33. Placing third was team Matt Howard, Terry Stratton, Mike Burns, and Diane Maxey with a team minus 29. Fourth place was team Phill Dunn, Ben Feinburgh, Mike Roscoe, and Kathy Gibney, coming in with a team minus 28. Sorry for not knowing some of the participants’ first names. The leaderboard only showed first-name initials and last name. On Saturday, closest to the pin, for the women, on hole 4 was Kira Mead, on hole 8 Irma Ford, on hole 11 Sara Hunt, and on hole 15 Kathy Westfall. For the men on hole 4, Terry Remos, on 8, Glen Beck, on 11, D. D. Weller, and on 15, Terry Remos.
Long Drive winner on Saturday, for women under 55, was Kira Meade, and for men, Dewey Turner. Long Drive for 55- to 65-year-olds was Kathy Westfall and Phill Dunn. For the over-65 category, Kathy Gibney and S. Gonsalves won. Sunday’s closest-to-the-pin winners were Matt Howard on hole 4, Dewey Turner on 8, and Sean Meade on 11, with Terry Remos and Chuck Allegrini tied on 15. Wait a minute, Terry Remos was closest on three different holes? What movies are you watching, Terry? Nice going, Terry. For the women, there was no closest on hole 4. On hole 8, it was Kira Meade; on 11, Rita Hanover; and on 15, Irma Ford. Long Drive on Sunday for the under-55 level was won by Dewey Turner again and by Kira Meade. Kira was closest to the hole on two holes and the long drive winner both days. At the 55-to-65-year level, Mike Godwin won with no women placing. For the over-65s, it was Glen Beck and Kathy Gibney. Low gross for the two-day tournament was Dewey Turner, shooting a 73/76 and Irma Ford, shooting a 92/92. Well done, all. I wish I were there.
