SOUTHAMPTON, N.Y. — The Long Island Rail Road will offer special service for the 2026 U.S. Open golf tournament at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, serving a temporary Shinnecock Hills station for the event June 15-21. Plans are to offer double the number of trains that operated the last time the tournament as at Shinnecock Hills in 2018, when the LIRR carried more than 77,000 fans.
An average of seven to eight additional trains daily will serve Shinnecock Hills, on the LIRR Montauk Branch. The railroad will also add extra trains, increase train lengths, and adjust schedules to provide additional rider capacity and more direct service.
“The Long Island Rail Road is ready,” LIRR President Rob Free said in a press release. “Avoid the traffic and use our exceptionally reliable service to and from Shinnecock Hills for all the golf action. Extra staff will also be on hand at Southampton to help customers throughout the championship for a great customer experience.”
During practice rounds June 15-17, Shinnecock Hills will be served by 22 trains — 10 arriving and 12 departing. For the first two rounds of the tournament on Thursday, June 18, and Friday, June 19, there will be 25 trains — 12 arrivals and 13 departures — compared with 15 in 2018. And on Saturday and Sunday, June 20-21, there will be 26 trains — 13 in each direction — compared with 18 in 2018.
Full schedules are available here or on the LIRR Train Time app. The schedule includes USGA rules on items that spectators may or may not bring to the tournament.
