WELLESLEY ISLAND, New York (WWNY) – A state-owned golf course in the North Country won’t open this season.
The state says it tried three times to find a concessionaire for the Wellesley Island State Park Golf Course, but had no luck.
“New York State Parks has determined that reopening the 9-hole course for the 2026 season is no longer feasible,” officials said. “Given the timing and operational requirements necessary to prepare the facility for public use, there is insufficient time and resources remaining to open the course this year.”
The state says it will continue mowing and performing basic grounds maintenance on the 9-hole course.
It also says it’s open to having discussions with any third party interested in operating the course.
