One of Tiger Woods’ most memorable shots came during the final round of the 2009 WGC-Bridgestone Invitational at Firestone Country Club.

On the par-5 16th hole, Tiger pulled 8-iron and delivered a brilliant approach that landed near the flag and rolled back to tap-in range. The shot is often remembered as the 181-yard 8-iron, though Tiger later said he had about 170 yards to the hole. Either way, it became one of those classic Tiger moments — the swing, the reaction, the pressure, and the timing all came together.

The moment mattered because of where it happened in the tournament. Pádraig Harrington was still right there in contention, but trouble on the 16th changed everything. Harrington made triple bogey, Tiger took control, and Woods went on to win the 2009 WGC-Bridgestone Invitational by four shots.

That victory was Tiger’s fifth win of the 2009 season and the 70th PGA Tour win of his career. Years later, this shot still stands out because it shows exactly what made Tiger different in his prime: the ability to turn pressure into a highlight that people still talk about.

Fact note: this was the final round at Firestone’s par-5 16th; reports describe the 8-iron landing near the pin and rolling to about a foot, Harrington making triple bogey, and Woods winning by four. Tiger’s own post-round quote said he had “170 to the hole,” while several clip descriptions remember it as 181 yards.
