Where to watch the 2026 Charles Schwab Challenge Akshay Bhatia, J.J. Spaun are co-clubhouse leaders

They’re joined at 8 under by Jordan Smith, Michael Thorbjornsen and Mackenzie Hughes (all three still on the course) but for now it’s Bhatia and Spaun holding the clubhouse lead.

Bhatia is 6 under through 17 holes in his second round and has it to 9 under overall, good for a one-shot lead after a pair of J.J. Spaun bogeys.

A.J. Ewart makes second hole-in-one of the week

Ewart, a PGA Tour rookie in 2026, has aced the 16th hole. The 27-year-old Canadian hit the green on the par-3 hole and watched it then bend left before rolling into the cup. Critically, that vaulted him inside the cutline. He was at 1 under but the projected cut is 2 under so he’s given himself some breathing room. It’s his first PGA Tour ace.

Stephan Jaeger withdraws during Friday’s round

Jaeger is the seventh player to WD from the 2026 Schwab but the first to do so after play started. Get the details here.

J.J. Spaun opens three-shot lead at Charles Schwab

Spaun just birdied the 18th hole, his ninth of the day, to get to 4 under in the second round and 10 under overall, good enough for a two-shot lead. Check that. Moments later, Ryo Hisatsune bogeyed the 13th and Spaun’s lead grew to three shots.

There’s now a four-way tie for the lead

It wasn’t long after Eric Cole took the solo lead that three players matched his 7 under and knotted things up once again.

Eric Cole takes over sole possession of the lead

Cole is 5 under through seven holes in the early going Friday and has the outright lead at 8 under. J.J. Spaun is a shot back.

If you missed it: Here’s that amazing Brandt Snedeker aceWho’s in the field for the 2026 Charles Schwab Challenge?

Colonial Country Club is celebrating its 80th anniversary and is the PGA Tour’s longest running host venue for a non-major.

The field includes seven of the top 20 players in the Official World Golf Ranking, but for the first time in his career, Jordan Spieth, a past champion, isn’t there, nor is world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, last week’s winner, Wyndham Clark or LIV returnee Brooks Koepka.

J.J. Spaun, No. 9 in the world, is the highest-ranked player in the field. He’s joined by Russell Henley (11) and Ludvig Aberg (13). Fan favorites Rickie Fowler and Justin Thomas are also there in a quest for the tournament’s famed tartan jacket.

What does the winner of the Charles Schwab Challenge get?

There’s a $1.782 million first-place check and a sweet tartan jacket on the line but the winner of the tournament also takes ownership of a tricked-out custom 1982 Jeep. This continues the cool car tradition at Colonial.
