Adidas Adizero Adios Pro Evo 3 Marathon Test: Cape Town Marathon 2026

Impossibly lightweight at under 100g, worn by Sawe to smash the 2-hour marathon in London, and packing some innovative new design, there’s no question the Adidas Adizero Adios Pro Evo 3 is the most hyped shoe of the moment. But how does it hold up on the feet of a 3-hour marathon runner attacking the 42km? Run Tester Kieran put it to the test at competing in the Abbott World Marathon Majors Age Group World Championships as the Cape Town Marathon 2026. Here’s how he got on. Plus a quick comparison of the Garmin Forerunner 170 Music and the Garmin Forerunner 70.

  1. Kieran, you're a beast. Everytime you pop up you're running yet another race! It's great to see – a run tester (not just one of the 'Run Testers') actually putting shoes where they're supposed to be – running in races. Keep on trucking mate 💪💪💪

  2. Cape Town Marathon has always been a favourite race of mine. I was sad not to run it this year – it felt like great conditions to race in when I was at the roadside watching the race around the 23km mark – but I am hoping to run my best possible Comrades this year so wasn't going to risk a marathon 3 weeks ahead of the big one!

  3. I’ll never understand why a sub elite (Im talking in general here – not a dig at you as you review shoes!) would ever buy these shoes for £450. You’re just simply not going to get the best out of them. I get PBs are so important to people and you can look at it like “ok shall I spend £450 to heighten my chances of a PB” but in same breath – lots of these top end shoes can also cause issues for many so it could also be detrimental. Same as why many runners feel the Fast R 3s are too aggressive for them. Have heard numerous 2:20ish athletes say this, wild.
so yeh, don’t get why any sub elite runner would give these shoes a go, and I know they’re not built for longevity haha but still £450 for a shoe that will last 70-80km is painful… (Nick bester managed that in his and called it a day).
