Area Boys Golf: Aulie advances to state – Brainerd Dispatch

McGREGOR — Pine River-Backs senior Isaiah Aulie shaved seven strokes off his opening round 85, to fire a 78 Wednesday, May 27, and place third in the Section 7-1A Tournament at Minnesota National Golf Course.

Aulie jumped up six spots thanks to a relatively quiet round of 40-38. He posted just one double bogey, his opening hole, and added four bogeys and 13 pars for his 78 to advance to the Class 1A State Tournament for a third straight season.

Younger brother Brady Aulie placed 32nd with a 194 and Connor Mink placed 39th for the Tigers.

BIWABIK — Crosby-Ironton/Aitkin’s Matt Prethish shot a 15th-place 81 to lead his team to ninth place after the opening round of the Section 7-2A Tournament Wednesday, May 27, at The Quarry at Giants Ridge.

Prethish will be joined by seniors Bennett Sadlowsky and Caleb Smith in Thursday’s final round. Sadlowsky shot an 84 to land in 30th and Smith was 33rd with an 85.

Carr drives Flyers to 3rd

EAST GULL LAKE — Peyton Carr matched his three bogeys with three birdies to shoot an even-par 71 and lead the Little Falls Flyers to third place Wednesday, May 27, in the Cardinal Invite at Cragun’s Legacy Courses.

Carr birdied the third, 16th and 18th for his even-par round. Teammate Bode Kapsner was 15th with a 79 and Dawson Carr placed 18th.

Pequot Lakes, led by Tollef Birkeland’s 6-over 77, placed fourth. Nathan Cekalla finished eighth with a 76 to pace the Pierz Pioneers to fifth.

Thomas Johnson shot a 78 to lead the host Staples-Motley Cardinals to sixth and the Pillager Huskies tied for ninth with Melrose as Parker Pallansch tied Johnson’s 78 for 11th.
