Several area atheltes, team to hi the course for state golf | Sports

NORFOLK – The high school sports season is coming to an end as the last NSAA State event is set to take place as state golf hits courses throughtout the state Wednesday and Thursday.

And the Norfolk and Northeast Nebraska area will be represented well.

Norfolk Catholic, a consistent invite winner throughout this season, qualified their entire team in Class C following their win at the C-3 District Invite May 19th in Norfolk.

Led by individual champion Will Brockhaus (74) the Knights posted a team score of 313, eleven strokes better than runner-up Cedar Catholic at 324.

For the first time since 2009, Lutheran High Northeast will get the chance to battle for a state title after qualifying as a team following a runner-up finish in the D-2 District May 18th.

Led by a score of 80 by runner-up Cole Lawless, the Eagles posted a team score of 359 to finish as team runners-up behind district champion Creighton (346).

Norfolk, which missed qualifying their entire team for a state title run, did get two individuals to qualify via wildcards in Tyler Galyen and Elliott Hansen.

Outside of Norfolk, other schools to qualify as a team were Battle Creek, Boone Central and Cedar Catholic in Class C while Chambers/Wheeler Central, Creighton, Neligh-Oakdale and Plainview all qualified as a team in Class D.

Action will take place out at Meadowlark Hills Golf Course in Kearney (Class A), Scotts Bluff Country Club in Scottsbluff (Class B), Indianhead Golf Club in Grand Island (Class C) and Quail Run Golf Course in Columbus (Class D) beginning at 9 a.m. both Wednesday and Thursday
