Kelly Catholic’s boys golf team capped an impressive 2026 season by competing among the state’s best during the TAPPS 5A Championship at Squaw Valley Golf Club in Glen Rose.
The Bulldogs earned a third-place finish at the two-day state championship event. Kelly Catholic finished with an overall score of 588, four shots behind state runner-up All Saints Episcopal. Midland Christian won the state title with a total score of 574.
Junior Reece Williams led the Bulldogs with rounds of 73 and 71 for an even-par total of 144. He earned First-Team All-State honors and a top-10 individual finish.
Junior Christian Mathews and senior Landen Roger both earned Second-Team All-State honors after finishing tied for 16th overall at 147 (+3). Roger closed the championship with one of the top rounds in the field, firing a two-under-par 70 in the final round.
Sophomore Skylyn Fisher finished 23rd overall at 150 (+6) after a strong postseason that included winning the TAPPS 5A Regional Championship. Sophomore Lucian Mazzola finished 31st overall at 156 (+12) and continued to be a major contributor throughout the Bulldogs’ postseason run.
Head coach Rob Long said multiple times during the season that this year’s team was one of the best in Kelly Catholic history. The Bulldogs won eight team championships and had 27 individual finishes inside the top 10.
Kelly Catholic was ranked as high as No. 2 in TAPPS 5A this season. Every player in the lineup averaged a score of 77 or better for the season.
