SportsVille to host Junior Golf Camp in North Ridgeville

Young golfers will have the opportunity to sharpen their skills this summer during SportsVille’s Junior Golf Camp in North Ridgeville.

The five-day camp will take place June 22-26 at SportsVille, 37500 Center Ridge Road, and is designed for students ages 11-15, primarily those in grades six through eight.

SportsVille officials said fifth- and ninth-grade students also may participate depending on experience and ability level.

The camp will offer two daily sessions from 9 to 10:30 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

According to marketing coordinator Vanessa Boyce, the camp is structured to give young athletes a full introduction to the fundamentals of golf in a supportive environment.

“Students will learn the basics while also getting to have fun with games and activities,” Boyce said.

Golf instructor Joe Battaglia said previous golf experience is not required, and SportsVille will provide clubs for participants who do not have their own equipment.

Throughout the week, campers will rotate through stations focused on grip, stance, posture and swing technique.

“We’re going to teach them the basic golf swing, how to hold it, how to stand and the basic swing,” Battaglia said. “We’ll teach them how to chip onto the green, how to control the distance of a putt and how to hit both irons and drivers.”

SportsVille’s TopTracer technology will be incorporated into the camp, allowing students to participate in interactive golf games while practicing their skills.

“It’s nice that we have the games, so the kids are able to combine practice with fun,” Boyce said.

The camp will conclude with an end-of-week celebration featuring mini golf and a pizza party.

Campers also will receive SportsVille merchandise and certificates of completion.

Battaglia said the camp gives children an opportunity to explore a sport they may continue playing for years to come.

“A camp like this really gives a young person the opportunity to pursue it,” he said. “They can play in middle school, high school and even college.

“It gives them an opportunity to see if they like the sport.”

Registration information is available on SportsVille’s website.
