2026 F1 Canadian GP Sprint Qualifying analysis by Peter Windsor

George Russell is on the pole for the Canadian GP Sprint race but only by the margin of 0.068sec over his Mercedes team-mate, Kimi Antonelli. McLaren-Mercedes fill the second row, with Lando Norris ahead of Oscar Piastri; Ferrari will start on row three (Lewis Hamilton ahead of Charles Leclerc); and Red Bull-RBPT Ford fill row four (Max Verstappen 0.1 sec quicker than Isack Hadjar). Peter in this video looks back at the key elements of Montreal Friday.

  1. 6:09 Yeah, super unimpressive that Albon couldn't avoid the suicidal marmot. Seriously Pete, if you're going to self style yourself as an F1 guru perhaps watch the sessions before commenting?

  2. I’m at the Montreal GP this weekend! Was excited to get Peter’s perspective after watching the drivers live. Hamilton looks super comfortable out there…he is the driver leaning most on the rear of their car – fun to watch. Kimi is so fast and smooth. George is fast and jerky. The Mercedes looks like a different car to the rest…so much speed carried into corners.

First time seeing the new cars – they look fabulous, but I can literally have a casual conversation with my Dad they are so quiet. It takes away from the spectacle

  3. This bright neon lower third graphic is killing me. I understand that you have to highlight the sponsors but it is unbearable. A black bar or anything else would be better!

  4. I wonder how much better F1 could be if they just went full Group B with it…. Just throw away the rule book and allow for ten years of innovation.

  5. It is funny how they tried to make the cars cheaper years back and they've just ended up being way more expensive. And as you say in this new era of lifting to preserve power, aerodynamics are more important than ever, which drives up cost.

  6. Sorry, but watching the cars lose power down the straights is such a joke, I can’t get over it. This is now the furthest away from being the pinnacle of motorsport. Counting the days for the next weekend of MotoGP/2/3 and WRC.

  7. Dear Sir Windsor. Alex Albon had an off due to a collision with a ground hog. I wouldn't go as far as "Not very impressive performance by him". Great admiration and respect to your work Mr. Peter 🙂

  8. McLaren did not use the new front wing in qualifying as they didn’t have time to fully sort it . Alex hit a Ground Hog so definitely not driver error Peter
