Cajon and Webb boys golf teams claim CIF Southern Section championships – Press Enterprise

Earlier this week, 35 Inland area boys golf teams teed off in CIF Southern Section team divisional championships. Two brought home titles Monday.

In Division 6, Webb won at Victorville’s Bear Valley Country Club after shooting a 412 (+52) to defeat Hillcrest by 11 shots.

The Gauls were led by Jayden Kuo, who shot a 5-over-par 77 with two birdies in his first five holes. Other contributing scores came from Gus Hebert (82), Matthew Hao and Miles Park (84s), and Ethan Hao (85).

Runner-up Hillcrest was led by Archwin Sangsurasak with a 1-under-par 71.

Rancho Cucamonga (424) and Murrieta Mesa (428) finished third and fourth, respectively. Carsen McConnell led Rancho Cucamonga with a 76, while Marcus Silva shot an 80 for Murrieta Mesa.

This is the third straight year an Inland team won in Division 6, following Temescal Canyon (2024) and Alta Loma (2025).

Webb took a one-shot lead to the back nine and pulled away with a 208 over the final nine holes.

“When we got to No. 12 (a 138-yard, par-3) I saw guys miss the green left into either rough or the penalty area, but all six of my guys hit smart tee shots and made pars,” Webb coach Stephen Hebert said. “Once I refreshed the app we had a double-digit lead and all we had to do was finish.

“We took a look at the course online and saw that we’d likely be having a lot of short irons and wedges in our hands, so we went to Glen Oaks (a par-3 course in Glendora) to really get dialed in with our scoring clubs, and it paid off for us.”

At Huntington Beach’s Meadowlark Golf Club, it was Cajon prevailing in Division 7 after shooting a 419 (+69). The Cowboys’ nine-hole splits of 206-213 are the team’s lowest nine hole scores this season.

The Cowboys defeated Redlands Adventist Academy and Hacienda Heights Wilson by five shots, while Loma Linda Academy was eight shots back.

Andrew Soriano shot a 78 to lead Cajon, with Gavin Ploehn and James Amori (81s), Freddie Ortiz (86), and Alexander Marquez (93) also posting contributing scores. JC Casaclang shot a 70 for Redlands Adventist, while Ethan Castillo shot 69 for Loma Linda Academy.

“Meadowlark is so different from other courses we played this year because it really forces you to play tactical golf,” Cajon coach Erick Jordan said. “Its challenge is in their turtleback-style greens. With one practice round I thought our guys were well-prepared and thrived.”

“When the year started there was talk that we were going to shut down the program due to lack of participation,” Jordan added. “To go from that to a varsity roster of 15 and a CIF-SS championship is just incredible and a testament to the hard work of a group of wonderful guys. We have to keep equitable access to golf in the inner-cities alive and hopefully our program can be part of that process.”

Santa Rosa Academy’s Thomas Little led all Division 7 individuals with a 68 (-2).
