SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — The Benedictine golf team placed third at the Class AAAA state championship played at Savannah Golf Club on Tuesday.
Benedictine faced an uphill climb after they found themselves 23 strokes down and in fourth place behind day-one leader, Cartersville.

The tournament was held in the Hostess City, which might have provided unexpected pressure for the Cadets.
“There’s always that,” Benedictine junior golfer Bear Dollander said, “You ask around and we were expected to win, quote unquote. That is always going to be added pressure there. You know, you’re going out as the favorite, which that’s always tough. You know, that’s always tough. That’s more pressure on us for sure.
“We were prepping two weeks in advance and everybody was like, ‘Oh shoot, we have to win state, we have to win state.’ That kind of showed in the first nine holes. Then, the first day there you could tell everybody was shaking, rattled, nervous. The first tee was super quiet. We were really, really nervous going in. You’re expected to win. It’s always tough.”
Cartersville finished 14 shots over par, while Benedicinte was 34 strokes over par, two strokes worse than second-place finisher North Oconee.
