Matti Schmid reacts after one of the best tournaments of his career at the 2026 PGA Championship, where he put himself in the mix on Sunday at Aronimink.
Schmid says he thought he was leading or right there after his birdie on 13, only to later see that the leaderboard had moved quickly and he was suddenly three or four shots behind. After a tough bogey on 15, he focused on finishing as high as possible and was proud to make two big par putts on 17 and 18.
The German also gives major praise to Aaron Rai, calling him “maybe the most hard-working guy on Tour.” Schmid says Rai practices with great intention, does so many things the right way and fully deserves his success.
Schmid also looks ahead after a breakthrough week, saying his game was already trending and that this PGA Championship was another big step in the right direction.
Great to see Matti Schmid play so well. The driver let him down but he hung in very well despite enormous pressure.
Congrats Matti!! Loved following you from the DP to the PGA tour. Your worth ethic made this all possible. Now go find that final “T” like a true German. 😂
Go Matti
seems like a nice guy
Congratulations champion
