Patrick Reed: “You Have to Play Golf, You Can’t Be a Robot”

Patrick Reed reacts after his third round at the 2026 PGA Championship, where he moved into position for a crowded and unpredictable Sunday at Aronimink.

Reed says his game was much better than on Friday, especially off the tee, allowing him to attack more often and keep momentum with key par saves. He explains why nobody has been able to separate on the leaderboard: severe, fast greens, firm conditions and pin positions that force players to putt defensively even from close range.

He also breaks down why Aronimink is such a unique major championship test. With wind, firm greens, thick rough and hole locations on crowns and valleys, Reed says players have to be creative, flight shots, use slopes and truly “play golf” rather than focus on technique like a robot.

Looking ahead to Sunday, Reed says a congested leaderboard is stressful for competitors, but great for fans.

  1. Say what you will, this guy wants it in golf. Not a fan but the guy is focused. What happened to Koepka saying Majors are easy? The most arrogant a-hole since Michelle Wie said she wanted to dominate the men’s tour. She is one of the greatest under-achievers in the history of sports. I’m wondering if the PGA Tour is still looking to Tiger to save the Tour; nothing like an opioid addict to lead selfish, greedy players to yet another pay raise as they deliver a fractured product.

  2. I respect PR knowing who he is, even if his personality may bother some people. He has his family and core group of trusted friends and knows it's best to keep that circle tight. He'll win for many years. Good luck Sunday, Patrick.

  3. Patrick has huge game, great hands, and if I needed anyone on earth to have to make an approach shot, a chip, or a putt to save my life, Patrick Reed would be really high on the list, and I think I would take him first. The way he rolled in the par save on 17 when he won the Masters was all class and brilliance. There is nobody on the planet who would brush that downhill putt in like that with the stakes that high. He was not tentative at all. He is a Hall of Famer, and has many years to get major number two which would come close to locking it up, because he should get more wins. He wins all over the world. I like the guy, and it is a shame that he has the cheating allegations (even if they are true). I mean, he is legit an all-time player, and hopefully when the dust settles, everyone acknowledges it.
