Shane Lowry’s post-round reaction
The Clara man had a smile on his face as he recounted two key moments in his round, and how he believes the course will play quite difficult for the remainder of the week. That’s the way he likes it, after all.
Talking to Sky Sports about his chip in on nine for eagle that moved him to 1-under par, Lowry said: “Yeah, it was nice because I definitely knew I needed to make birdie there because there were a few tough holes coming up.
“I practiced that chip shot a lot over the last few days and yeah, it went in like a putt, beautiful. I was very happy with that.”
On the conditions deteriorating as the afternoon progressed, Lowry said: “Yeah, it was pretty difficult and it was tricky and if you got out of position it was tough to make pars. I felt like I did a good job today of just managing my way around the course.
“There’s some decent scores out there but there’s no low scores. Everyone was kind of intrigued to see how this golf course was going to play and what the scoring was going to be like, and it looks like it’s going to be quite tough.”
And, commenting on his closing birdie on 18 that moved him to 2-under and within a shot of the lead, he remarked: “I hit a lovely second in, probably a bit further right than I would have liked, and it just caught the right edge on the way down.
“That will make dinner taste nice.”
