BRAINERD — The records keep falling for the Brainerd Warriors.

On their home turf of Cragun’s Legacy Courses, the Warriors shot an 8-under, 276 to win the Brainerd Invite Monday, May 11.

“The team from start to finish came out ready to go,” Brainerd head coach Tim Johnson said. “These guys are good and they showed it today. They threw in some scores that we know and they know that they are capable.”

Sophomore Drew Christensen led the way with a 6-under, 65 to win medalist. He eagled the par 5 fifth hole to move to 5-under after seven holes. He finished with a birdie on his last hole of the day, the par 5 16th hole. In total, Christensen carded six birdies, two bogeys and one eagle.

“Six-under is a hard feat and I’m super proud of him,” Johnson said. “I’m sure in his mind that he was happy to do it at home. To have six birdies and an eagle, he was playing his golf ball to its full potential.”

Jack Hagberg finished birdie, birdie for the Warriors to shoot a 2-under, 69 to place fourth. Hagberg eagled the par 4, fourth hole and recorded four birdies and four bogeys.

The Pequot Lakes Patriots placed 14th with a score of 357. Levi Bengston led the Patriots with an 83.

The 8-under, 276 for the Warriors sets a new team record that they set earlier this season at Fergus Falls.

“Records are meant to be broken,” Johnson said. “To do it so quickly and in the same year — the course wasn’t playing really easy, but they made it look easy.”
