Longshot Premlall stuns DPWT event, nearly ties Woods’ record set at 2000 U.S. Open

It’s not every day that someone flirts with a golf record held by Tiger Woods, and it’s also not every day that someone wins a golf tournament at 1000-1 odds, but that someone was Yurav Premlall on Sunday.

Premlall, 22, lapped the field at last week’s Catalunya Championship on the DP World Tour, fininsing the event 28-under par and winning by 14 shots.

The margin of victory by Premlall was one shot shy of matching the biggest margin of victory on tour, set by Woods at the 2000 U.S. Open.

But Woods did that as an overwhelming favoruite at Pebble Beach, entering the No. 1 player in the world as he won the third major of his career.

Prior to this week, Premlall had missed four of his last eight cuts, had one top 20 in his DPWT career and sat outside the Top 500 in the Offical World Golf Ranking and DataGolf.

With the win yesterday, Premlall took home a $641,096.80 bringing his career earnings on the DPWT to $714,708.79.

“I can’t give myself enough credit today and I’m not really a person to say that — it was probably the most complete performance I’ve ever put through,” he said.
