2026 PGA Championship Preview: Who Will Win at Aronimink Golf Club? | The Fried Egg Golf Podcast

Andy Johnson is once again joined by Fried Egg Golf’s Kevin Van Valkenburg and Joseph LaMagna for a comprehensive preview of the 2026 PGA Championship at Aronimink Golf Club in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania. The three follow a traditional “ten things” format for this preview episode, each bringing three storylines to watch at the year’s second men’s major. They discuss the Wednesday press conference from a new-look PGA of America, Cameron Young’s chances to push into a “Big Three” with Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler, and what to expect from Bryson DeChambeau and Jon Rahm after a tumultuous few weeks for LIV Golf. To end this episode, Andy, Kevin, and Joseph each give their pick to win the Wanamaker Trophy on Sunday, May 17th.

  1. I think Andy's analysis of Rose is right on the money. Rose is a true Masters hard luck story, in the same vein as Weiskopf. Just couldn't get it done and deep down knows it won't happen. Too bad, he really deserved a green jacket.

  2. I live in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania. We’re all getting ready for 200,000 people descending on our little hamlet. So excited for this upcoming week. The PGA Championship hasn’t come to Aronimink since 1962.

  3. Growing up in the 1970s I was a little jealous of how international tennis was, golfs only elite international was Gary Player & I have always felt that tennis does a better job marketing their pros. For 50 years I have believed the PGA of America would be better off hosting their event and controlling their revenues by alternating USA -Australia – USA – continental Europe – USA – L America – USA – S Africa – USA – Asia. I know it would take a very long time to get to that point. In 1971 Nicklaus said it should be played in Florida in Feb once a decade because Florida has produced a lot of good golfers so all I did was take Jack's suggestion one step further. The world has produced a lot of good golfers and playing it internationally may not raise the prestige among Americans but it would be the most coveted of the 4 majors in parts of the world where a kid can fantasize about winning it in his own country.

Young tennis fans might even envy golf for having a major that roams around the world, sort of reversing my envy of them when I was a kid Pro golf ALWAYS has an excuse for being short sighted & chasing the immediate buck. Does soccer suffer by being the most popular team sport everywhere except here? I don't think so. The PGA Championship should embrace so many good internationals.

May is a terrible time to play it & a pathetic acquiescence to the Olympics, even weaker than being afraid of the NFL Aug is better & I don't think they should be afraid to play it after tennis has finished playing their US Open, maybe let the PGA Championship conclude the PGA season. They can modify their Fed Ex commercial, it's okay but it's also contrived, it doesn't actually crown anything.

  4. Time to drop the PGA as a major. The world is big enough such that the USA deserves two, the Brits and Irish one, and the fourth should rotate to various sites. I was hoping that Rory and a few of his peers, some writers, and other golf notables would show up at Melbourne last year and declare that starting in 2026 the Australia Open would be the first World Open and the new fourth major.

  5. Match Play** with random draw of players playing one another. Not using world ranking. 78 player bracket. Only problem, I personally feel it could encourage gambling betting on players etc.

  6. The 2 biggest Tournaments are the Masters and the British Open, I feel the Masters should be towards the end of the Calendar along with the British Open… not sure which one would go last but it’s never made sense to me why the Masters as the most exclusive tournament is at the start of the year if it was later in the calendar it would provide more chance for players to earn their way into the competition and not cause the issue of the PGA having to follow it up, is there a reason why the Masters has to be at the start? I’m from the UK so I don’t really know if there’s weather issues etc to me it just seems a tap in to have the PGA first so there is buzz around it as it would be the first major

  7. Question for the panel…. If Scotty, Rory & Cam play at their current best, who wins? My opinion is that Cam at his best would come out ahead of Scotty & Rory at their best.
