No. 2 USC Women’s Golf Begins NCAA Championship Run in Ann Arbor

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — The No. 2 USC Trojans will vie for a spot in the NCAA Championship at the Ann Arbor Regional, held at the University of Michigan Golf Course from May 11-13.

The 12 teams in the Ann Arbor regional will duke it out over the course of 54 holes at the par-71, 6,265-yard course designed by legendary golf architect Alastair Mackenzie — the same architect behind Augusta National. The top four teams and the top individual from a non-qualifying team will advance to the NCAA Championship, held once again at the Omni La Costa Resort in Carlsbad, Calif. from May 22-27.

A livestream for all three rounds can be purchased on watch.babygrandegolf.com. Live results will be provided via Scoreboard. All pertinent updates can be found on the women’s golf team’s schedule page on usctrojans.com.

The Trojans have made the final site every season since 1998, which is the nation’s longest active streak. USC also leads the nation with 15 NCAA Regional titles. Last year in the Lexington Regional, the Trojans placed fourth, with Bailey Shoemaker leading the team by tying for seventh place. All four scoring players from last year’s team are on the roster this season.

Winners of its last six tournaments, USC leads the nation with seven wins this season. The team is one win away from surpassing Head Coach Justin Silverstein’s winningest season, which came in 2018-19 (the program record for single-season wins is nine). Throughout the year, the Trojans have placed in the top three in nine of the 10 tournaments and have placed no lower than sixth.

Predictably, USC is one of the deepest teams in the field with four players ranked in the top 25 and all five scorers inside the top 50 of the Scoreboard individual rankings. In particular, No. 10 Catherine Park and No. 16 Jasmine Koo were named to the ANNIKA Award Postseason Watch List earlier this month, which is the award given to the best player in women’s collegiate golf. Additionally, Koo became USC’s all-time wins leader with eight individual wins, while Park is tied for third with five.

Further down the lineup, Bailey Shoemaker is enjoying her best collegiate season after missing the entire fall slate due to a near-career-ending injury. The junior from Dade City, Fla. is ranked No. 12 in the latest national rankings and has placed in the top 15 in all seven tournaments in which she has played. She is coming off back-to-back runner-up finishes at the Chevron Silverado Showdown and the Big Ten Championships.

Sophomore Kylie Chong is also having a breakout season for the Trojans. After having just two top-10 finishes as a freshman, the sophomore from Torrance, Calif. has finished in the top 10 seven times, including her first two collegiate wins at the Golfweek Red Sky Classic and USC’s inaugural GameAbove Invitational. Her seven top-10 finishes are tied for the most on the team with Catherine Park.

Fellow sophomore Elise Lee is making her postseason debut for the Trojans after helping Northwestern — which is also competing in the Ann Arbor Regional — win a national championship last year. Lee has been a consistent part of the lineup with 10 top-25 finishes and six top-10 finishes on the year. She has tied her best collegiate tournament score of 211 twice this year.
