Donald Trump was involved in another eye-catching moment on the golf course after LIV Golf star Dean Burmester flagged him down as he drove past on a buggy at Trump National Golf Club in Virginia.

The clip shared by Burmester’s LIV Golf team, Southern Guards GC, shows Trump interacting warmly with players and spectators while attending the LIV Golf event hosted at one of his own properties.

As Trump was driving past, Burmester could be heard calling out: “Mr. President, Mr. President”. And Trump insisted on stopping the golf cart, eager to speak with the 36-year-old, before Burmester thanked him as the pair exchanged words near the course. It comes after Trump was left red-faced as Doral scenes speak volumes upon PGA Tour return.

Trump then praised the South African golfer, saying: “Way to go, Dean,” prompting Burmester to respond appreciatively once again. The conversation ended with Trump joking that he wanted to play golf at Burmester’s level, saying: “I want to play like you, Dean.” Burmester then laughed and replied: “Yeah, well, I want to play like him as old as he is.”

Trump has remained one of LIV Golf’s most vocal supporters since the breakaway tour launched, regularly hosting events at his courses and publicly backing efforts to reunite the sport’s biggest stars.

LIV Golf Virginia is an event overshadowed by uncertainty surrounding the future of the former Saudi-backed circuit after reports that the Public Investment Fund will withdraw financial support following the 2026 season.

Despite the ongoing questions around LIV’s future, Trump has continued to advocate for reconciliation between LIV and the PGA Tour, recently stating that fans want to see the world’s best golfers competing together more regularly.

“I do believe that all of the golfers, the great golfers, should be playing against each other,” Trump told reporters during a news conference on April 30. “I want to see Rory (McIlroy) playing Bryson DeChambeau. I want to see big Jon Rahm play Scottie (Scheffler), who’s so great. … That’s why the Masters were so good because you saw everybody together. The tour wants to have the best players. You can’t have the best player that they’re boycotting now. They may do something, you know, a little bit, but they’ll all be back on tour, and it’ll be great. I don’t know what’s happening with LIV.”

DeChambeau, who appeared alongside Trump in the Oval Office earlier this week for the announcement of the returning Presidential Fitness Test, recently admitted he could shift his focus toward his hugely popular YouTube channel if LIV Golf were to collapse after this season.

Uncertainty also continues to surround the future of LIV players who previously left the PGA Tour, with no clear indication yet over what sanctions or restrictions they could face should they attempt to return if the Saudi-backed circuit’s future remains in doubt.

LIV will return to another Trump course later this year, when it holds an event in Bedminster, New Jersey, in August.
