LIV Golf Tournament at Trump National Enters Third Day | News

The LIV Golf Virginia tournament at Trump National Golf Club in Lowes Island continues today with a shotgun start at 1:05 p.m.

President Donald Trump is expected to be in attendance and there is a large security presence. Fans should expect to wait in line to go through magnetometers before being allowed to enter the club. There are also a significant number of buses and other vehicles shuttling fans from parking at Dulles Town Center to the site.

Grounds passes are still available on the tournament’s website.

LIV Golf is a team tournament and features many of golf’s most highly ranked players. This tournament has a $20 million purse. Australia’s Lucas Herbert, part of the Rippers GC team, led the field after Round Two with a score of -17. Second place was held by Spain’s Sergio Garcia of Fireballs GC with -11, and third by England’s Richard Bland, part of the Cleeks Golf Club team, with a score of -7.

Jon Rahm, from Spain and part of the Legion XIII team, is the overall leader in the league and is currently tied for seventh place in the Virginia tournament with a score of -5. League second-place Bryson DeChambeau, from the US, is also tied for seventh.

The event comes as the league faces an uncertain future after Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, the main financial backer of LIV Golf, announced it will stop supporting the league after this season. The tournament has also drawn daily protests from local groups, including Indivisible Loudoun and other chapters, and national protest groups 50501 and Third Act. The group is protesting both President Trump’s actions in office and the tournament’s ties to Saudi Arabia, a country with a checkered human rights record, and prominent world business groups, including President Trump.

One protestor said he was at the event to protest “climate change, global corruption, tyranny, human rights abuses, greed, corporate oligarchy, it all combines in this specific event.” Another said she was protesting because she believes “it’s a shame that people are shrugging things off and saying ‘well what can you do?’”

The protest organizers said they had faced some criticism from attendees but had also had support from attendees and passersby.

The tournament will run through today and finish with its final round tomorrow with a 12:05 p.m. start scheduled.
