Using Mid Handicap Dave as clickbait now? Tsk tsk!
I got the following set up. Driver 2H, 4H, 6-9, PW, SW, LW. The 2H is less used than my 4H because of loft, but isn't that bad overall. 6 iron is only there for a few par 3 holes I play on my home course. SW and LW are specialty clubs for me. Bunkers, short sided, lofting over bunkers etc
I would love to hit my 3 wood just as good as my 5 wood. That’s why is resting comfortably with the other surplus clubs. lol
I bought a 5W and found I use it more than my 3W. Most of the courses I play have a dogleg or a bunker right at the 200yd range and found the 5W covers that bunker or just gets to the corner of the dogleg without going through.
I totally get this. I'd say to people remove your driver force yourself to learn to hit the other longer clubs. I've just picked up a tsr 3 wood and am testing it therefore removed my driver. The challenge with most of these suggestions is the cost you could spend a fortune on extra fairway woods graphite shafts in irons for example which I'm not really in a position to do. I'd love a 7 wood but cant justify the fitting or the cost or the hundreds for a 7 wood. So yeah great but 2k for some new woods etc it all adds up.
Love my 3 wood, driver for Long holes, 3 wood for shorter straighter shots
I really want to know what club types that I hit well and those I don’t. I’m 66 with shoulder and wrist injuries so have not swung a club in 14 years now. I’ve decided after consulting my doctors that I can safely return to the game I enjoy. My problem is I have no experience with some of the newer club types like a hybrid iron. I was a middle /high handicap (@14) before my first surgery but I liked fairway woods. I don’t know if I can again hit them well of not anymore, just hoping to try a few clubs and shaft types/flex before buying since money doesn’t grow on my trees.
3 wood is antiquated. Throw in a 90s era cobra baffler 7 wood for the rough. Hybrid 4,5,6 iron.
Ditched the 3 wood. I carry driver, mini driver, 5W, 7W, 5H, 6i-PW, GW, SW, LW
Great video Chris. Just to be clear about what he's suggesting here. He's not telling us to ditch these clubs, he's suggesting other clubs that depending on our games may be better alternatives to the ones we're currently using. He also gives us questions to ask ourselves as we make those decisions. I would encourage everyone to if at all possible consult with the pro at the course you play most often or at the range where you practice and let them help you determine what clubs best suit your game.
D, 3w, 2H, 9-4i, pw, gw, sw, putter
Driver, 3+ Hy-Wood, 4H-6H, 7-GW, 56*, Putter.
I hit my 3w more accurately than driver. If I took that fairway finder out of the bag I would be doomed
I actually put a 3W back in the bag after trying a Driver & Mini Driver top end. For me the Ping G430 gives me a lot of confidence off the tee on the tight par 4s where I need a bit of accuracy and distance. I also have a 4,5 and 6 hybrid from Eleven and my favourite, a Callaway Elyte 7W. Really sensible advice and good food for thought
Its fine removing lw but if your wedge bounces are correctly set up a higher sw and lower lw is very useful if you play in changeable course conditions
