EAST GULL LAKE — Brainerd head coach Karissa Haugen could be heard screaming all over Pine Beach East Golf Course at Madden’s Thursday, May 7.
It was a celebratory holler as Brainerd’s Ruby Fromm carded a hole-in-one on the 140-yard par 3 first hole. Fromm used an 8-iron and saw her ball land short of the green before beelining towards the hole for an ace.
The ace came on Fromm’s sixth hole of the day and after she carded a triple-bogey six on the par 3, 18th hole. Fromm finished with a 90.
“I had an incredible view,” Haugen said of the hole-in-one. “That is my first hole-in-one I’ve seen in person and I’m pretty sure everyone on the course could hear me cheering. It was so cool to witness and I was super pumped up. She was super excited about it.”

The Warriors collected a 340 to place fourth. Meredith Holmstrom led the charge with an 82. She tallied 11 pars including seven on the back nine. Preslee Glynn was 3-over par through her first 11 holes before a quad-bogey on the ninth hole. She finished with an 84.
“Preslee was really steady,” Haugen said. “She is making a lot of par putts and that really helps her keep those numbers down. Overall, I think the girls played well.”
Freshman Vienna Dean also saw an up-and-down round that featured back-to-back birdies on holes five and six in her round of 85.

Elsie Haakonson scored one birdie in her 89 and Marcella Timmons fired a 91.
Detroit Lakes dominated another Central Lakes Conference meet with a 299.
“The course was playing really tough with the wind,” Haugen said. “Overall, I think we just missed too many putts today. The girls all had solid contact with the ball, but missed some opportunities around the green.”
