Seniors: STOP Starting The Downswing With Your Arms!

Seniors: STOP Starting The Downswing With Your Arms!

❌ Stop using a swing designed for a 25-year-old Tour Pro! Get the missing link to adding 20+ yards (FREE Book: Senior Distance Secrets) ➡️ https://gaindistance.com

If you are over 60 and losing distance off the tee, it is likely NOT your age—it is your golf biomechanics. In this video, I am breaking down the two absolute worst downswing mistakes that are destroying senior golf swings and ruining your consistency.

Most golf instruction is designed for flexible 25-year-olds. As a senior golfer, following that advice (like “turn more”) often causes you to sway, straighten your trail leg, and reverse pivot. That is why you are losing power.

I’m Dr. Jake Berman, and as a Doctor of Physical Therapy, I focus on how the senior body actually works. In this lesson, we are fixing your sequencing using the “Two Stick Drill.”

We will cover:

-The “Right Leg” Mistake: Why straightening your trail knee during the backswing prevents you from loading power (and causes swaying).

-The “Arm” Mistake: Why initiating the downswing with your hands causes early extension and weak contact.

-The Fix: How to properly lead with your belt buckle to compress the ball and add 20+ yards.

Stop hoping and praying for a good shot. Let’s fix your BODY so you can play pain-free and hit the ball further than you have in years!

  1. I disagree with you. We'll see when you're 75 if you can swing like McIlroy or Jon Rahm. Golfers are divided into two groups: those with an associated swing and those with a dissociated swing. The older you get, the more associated you become, and you can swing less with your body. Therefore, the swing starts more and more with the arms, like Justin Rose's practice swing.

  2. I think it would help if you gave the readers your golf background, golf accomplishments, handicap etc. and did some videos of you on a real driving range hitting and demonstrating your points. Strictly being a Physical Therapist does not translate into golf expert without extensive golf experience.

  3. I am 83 years old male, my right knee has a lateral meniscus problem with arthritis and my left SI joint area has early signs of arthritis. I’m not sure these types of exercises will Suitable for me.

  4. Horses for Courses, you can't please everyone, when u get some saying I should hit a ball, that is YOUR SWING,u are giving a demo of how the body moves and should move, keep up the should demo advice😊

  5. I'm definitely an arm-start guy here so over this winter I'm working on switching to the proper sequence with the lower body. Swinging a piece of rope is a great tool to help feel that. Cheers.
