Kai Trump made an appearance at the Masters on Wednesday, wearing Sun Day Red sneakers. The brand was launched by Tiger Woods following the conclusion of his 27-year partnership with Nike in 2024, and is his footwear of choice at all tournaments.

Kai’s selection of shoes carries particular significance given that Woods found himself embroiled in controversy following a rollover car crash at the end of last month. The 15-time major champion allegedly clipped a vehicle’s trailer while attempting to overtake it at excessive speed, causing his car to roll onto its side.

While no injuries were reported, officers at the scene suspected the PGA Tour icon was impaired, and opioids were discovered in his pocket. It comes after Phil Mickelson’s behavior towards the Masters locker room staff in the parking lot was caught.

Woods’ breathalyzer test registered 0, though he declined to provide a urine sample. The 50-year-old now faces charges of driving under the influence, property damage, and refusal to submit to testing – all of which he denies.

Following the crash, widespread reports emerged that an irate Vanessa Trump – Kai’s mother – confronted Woods upon his release after eight hours in custody, delivering an ultimatum and making clear she would not tolerate such conduct, unlike his previous partners.

In the days that followed, however, Vanessa posted a photo of the couple on her Instagram stories, complete with love heart emojis, signaling her support for Woods – at least for now. President Trump briefly weighed in on the situation, acknowledging that Woods is dealing with pain but describing him as a great man. Kai has since been spotted showing her backing for Woods. Beyond her sneakers, she was seen conversing with fellow guests who were also sporting Woods’ brand.

With her pricey earrings catching the sunlight and a digital camera hanging around her neck, she told Express U.S. Sports she had been at Augusta National since Sunday, with Wednesday marking her final day at the major before returning to high school. When asked to name her pick for this year’s title, she responded, “I think Bryson.”

As for her grandfather’s plans, she was less certain. “I’m not sure,” she said. “Haven’t asked.” When pressed on whether he would be watching, her answer was definitive. “Absolutely.”

Meanwhile, Woods has been granted permission by a judge to leave the country to seek medical treatment. The five-time Green Jacket winner had been expected at Augusta National this week to help launch The Patch – a nearby municipal course the club has renovated. Woods designed a short Par-3 course at the venue.

However, the Masters confirmed his absence through a statement issued by chairman Fred Ridley. “Augusta National Golf Club and the Masters Tournament fully support Tiger Woods as he focuses on his well-being,” Ridley said in a statement posted to The Masters’ X account.

“Although Tiger will not be joining us in person next week, his presence will be felt here in Augusta.”

It comes after a Masters champion’s son was banned for life after a ‘tacky’ stunt.
