An off-duty U.S. Secret Service agent was arrested after he was allegedly caught with his pants down, masturbating in front of hotel guests in Miami, amid President Donald Trump’s Florida visit to the PGA Tour’s Cadillac Championship.
According to an arrest affidavit from the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office obtained by USA TODAY, John Spillman, 33, is alleged to have “committed the offense of indecent exposure” while in South Florida on May 3.
The affidavit says that hotel guests told investigators that “they were downstairs in the hotel lobby, and the defendant followed them to their floor.” The guests said they entered their room as they were “in fear for their lives.”
After entering their room, the guests said they saw Spillman “masturbating next to their room.” The affidavit continues to say that the guests called hotel security, who found Spillman with his pants lowered and masturbating on the sixth floor.
Spillman was subsequently taken into custody, where he now faces one count of indecent exposure, according to online court records.

In an emailed statement to USA TODAY, the Secret Service said that Spillman had concluded his assignment in South Florida and was off-duty at the time of the incident.
Spillman, who is based in Washington, DC, was in the area as part of a security perimeter screening detail at Trump National Doral for the president’s visit to attend the 2026 PGA Cadillac Championship.
Richard Macauley, chief of the Uniformed Division of the Secret Service, told USA TODAY that Spillman is currently on administrative leave pending the outcome of both criminal and internal investigations.
“The alleged conduct is unacceptable and stands in stark contrast to the professionalism and integrity that I demand of our personnel,” he said.
According to online court records, Spillman remains behind bars on a $1,000 bond. Spillman made his first court appearance on May 4, local TV station WSVN reported.
Spillman’s public defender did not immediately respond to USA TODAY’s request for comment.
