TAYLOR, B.C. — Melting snow and springtime weather mean it’s time for local golfers to get back in the swing of things for the 2026 season.
Courses around the Peace Region are amping up for a busy season, including Lone Wolf Golf Club in the district of Taylor.
The sport is quite popular across Canada: In 2025, the country’s governing body, Golf Canada, said 11.2 million scores were recorded on its mobile app by 360,000 members nationwide.
The 18-hole course boasts six different tee lengths, with the course playing as far as 7,140 yards. It also has a restaurant and a pro shop.
After being the only peace region course to open last weekend, foot traffic gathered quickly, according to the course’s resident professional, Larry Ramstad.
“[The] opening weekend was a zoo around here,” said Ramstad. “It was crazy, because we were the only course in the peace region that was open. We were sold out Friday, Saturday and Sunday.”
The warm conditions around the region allowed the course to be open earlier than expected. However, it means the fairways and greens are a little dry to begin the year, Ramstad said.
“[The] course is in dry conditions right now because we do not have the irrigation up and running,” said Ramstad. “We were waiting for weather like this. Nice weather came on so fast that it dried the golf course out fast.”
Ramstad also said recreational leagues – which will take place on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights during the summer – will also begin next week.
They include a commercial league for teams, and a men’s and women’s league.
“[The commercial league] will have 20 teams,” said Ramstad. “We will have a league-long round robin with a wind-up in mid-September.”
“The ladies get creative with their formats. It might be one night where they’re just counting how many putts they have, and that will be where the prizes go.”
Lone Wolf will also offer the course’s Icebreaker event, which will take place on Saturday, May 16th, for club members.
“The name is indicative of what the event is,” said Ramstad. “It’s a way to break the ice for this season and welcome everybody back.”
Lone Wolf Golf Club is located at 9999 99th Avenue in the District of Taylor. To book a tee time, visit the District of Taylor’s Lone Wolf website or call the club at (250) 789-3711.
