After years of showing his potential, Cameron Young has broken out.

In March, he outduelled Matthew Fitzpatrick at the Players Championship to claim just his second PGA Tour victory. In April, he pushed Rory McIlroy at the Masters before eventually finishing in a tie for third. In May, he became the first PGA Tour winner at Doral in a decade as he ran with away with the Cadillac Championship in historic fashion. It’s been a highlight-reel northern spring for Young, but when asked about his favourite part of his latest victory, Young admitted it wasn’t the $US3.6 million purse, the shiny trophy or even the thumbs up he got from US president Donald Trump. Instead it was this…

Young’s favourite part of his win? Being greeted by his family, who flew down to Doral on the final day.
On one hand, this might not be what you expect to hear from one of the hottest golfers on the planet. On the other, it’s exactly what you would expect to hear from Young. The Westchester-born pro went viral recently for his habit of attending local church services with his wife and three children before final rounds, no matter his position on the leaderboard or where the tour calendar might take them. So, if you’ve been following along, you might even say this is extremely on-brand for the family man, but still, it’s a breath of fresh air, especially because it seems like Young genuinely means it.

As for No.2 and No.3, Young said seeing his family was followed by winning the tournament (duh) and getting to sleep in his own bed on Sunday night. Hopefully he enjoys his own pillows and some home cooking while he can, because it will be a busy few weeks as Young heads off to this week’s Truist Championship at Quail Hollow followed by the PGA Championship at Aroninmink Golf Club, where he’s expected to be one of the favourites. Thankfully it seems that wherever he goes, his family will never be far behind.
