  1. Mr Erickson is the king of the 'hinge and hold' of the full swing. I have been coaching for 20 years now and this (in my humble opinion) is the easiest way to teach the golf swing to someone that is starting out. Of course it is harder if someone has already developed a 'swinger's release.'

Great video. . .Priceless information. I watch these videos over and over again to make sure I don't miss any nugget of information.

  2. Great content as always.
Just a naive question but if you look at someone like Trevino, you would see that he does 'bow' his wrists at the top. Is this something to compensate for his hold off release and aiming towards the left significantly? I would think that with his type of release and aim, if he were to cup his wrists, the ball would go way off to the right correct? I don't like to go into these details honestly but just something that came to my mind.

  3. I always thought Greg Norman was a pure ball striker, who never took a divot. He said, playing golf in Australia on rock hard fairways, you soon learned to pick the ball off the surface, or suffer pain in the wrist and hands, from the shock sent up the shaft if you with ball/turf, which is what is taught in golf.

  4. A lot of these alternative guys want to suggest that there is very little to no manipulation in their patterns. He wants us to believe that it's a flat body release that squares the club. But in the same breath he says its really down to the lead forearm rotation. Good on him for making it work but there's no magic moves going on.

  5. Hogan’s left wrist because of his grip was what really made level left work. With a fully uncocked left wrist, the club can’t turn over because the anatomy of the hand wrist and arm lock into synch with the body. Add pp4, good connection, and you literally can’t hit it left. I appreciate how you described it. Trevino, Moe, Hogan, knudson, it’s the same move, but Hogan got the anatomy right and the physics.

  6. No John, at 1:00 you don't hold the shaft flex through impact. That's just snake oil. Talk to somebody who knows about shafts. And two things. First let's see some of those Trackman errors you were telling us about. Second, your back yard looks like it needs some work and so do you.

  7. Ah Brendon surely if you learned nothing else on this great journey of yours that we all enjoy it’s that there are no secrets. The golf swing is a complicated compound movement of many coordinated parts. Johns ‘preferred method’ is just another way of doing it – one by the way that requires an enormous amount of practice and dedication which almost none of us have. I prefer the science and modern equipment simply because it’s easier to understand and scrutinise – not a retrogog who knew someone who watched someone who whispered something that nobody of that era understood but now magically makes sense. Constant hard graft is the only real secret.

  8. C'mon no way your lead shoulder is moving faster then your clubhead it may continue thru to the finish but it ain't accelerating faster. If that we true you would slice every shot with the club never releasing properly, junk in junk out!

  9. Pseudo science and the worst aspects of old school golf swing theory. So much of what he claims he does has been debunked by swing measurements done by the various 3D systems. The shoulder does not move faster that the club head through the ball. The arms and shoulders are not accelerating through the strike. They are decelerating. It’s all BS. Thinking these things or using his methods may make some people swing better. But he has the “why” part all wrong. I’d venture to say that an average golfer would have great difficulty playing this way. Flat lie, heavy, stiff clubs are going to make most people hit low darts to the right.

  10. Would be interested in his views on grip. My guess is he advocates a strong grip as this release (opening the face a lot in the backswing) is a lot more suited to a strong grip (where you need to open it more, since it's effectively starting closed) than a weak grip.

  11. I read Knudson's intriguing book years ago while doing some of the instructive slow motion target/alignment practice swings in my living room. For long shots he wrote about choosing a very accurate fine detail in the far distance as your target but also to pay attention to the 1 meter difference created by the angle between where the ball is at address and where your eyes are. I remember eventually making my way to a range to test out what I had been working on and in one of the most surreal moments of my golfing life I chose the pole at the far end of the range as my target then set up for my first shot (3 wood). It struck pure and to my disbelief, arched up in the sky then tacked down precisely following the line of the pole… A brief moment of channeling Knudson, never to be repeated again, lol.

  12. Jim Benepe got his start and mojo when he won the VIC Open at Kingston Heath GC in 1987 watched him practice & the full 18 holes last round… could seriously play 👍
