Golf: What Does Being A Beverage Cart Girl Actually Look Like?

Light banter with a regular customer is usually harmless; compliment the nails, make a joke, move on. Not accidentally uncover the entire state of someone’s marriage in under 30 seconds. That’s exactly what happened when a beverage cart girl tried to keep things playful and asked one golfer if he spoils his wife the same way he notices her manicure.

His response? A casual rant about how much she spends, followed by the kind of blunt honesty that took even the bev cart girl by surprise.

It seems some men just need rolling green hills and some soft drinks to be a little honest.

What’s a beverage cart girl?

Shay Patino (@shaypatino) is well-known on TikTok for her job. For the uninitiated, being a beverage cart girl at a golf course pulls in views like no other. Shay herself has gone viral plenty of times. In October 2025, Shay achieved 2.8 million views for a clip of her on the job.

In the video, a customer tipped her $20 on a $3 diet coke while mentioning that “old men don’t tip much.” He even told her to put it in her “eyelash fund.” Shay laughed and thanked him, saying it would go towards her gas money.

The tipping culture on golf courses is heavily debated. In 2025, The Mary Sue covered a story where a beverage cart girl from Nevada went on TikTok to complain how she got “stiffed” for not being tipped on a $3 bag of chips. Unlike most of Shay’s viewers, this time the commenters came for her instead. These viral exchanges opened a new discourse on TikTok: the dynamic that surrounds bev cart girls and the golfers.

What happened on the golf course?

Shay’s recent video garnered over 140,000 views in just two days. Her text overlay simply hints at the tone of the video: “I was NOT expecting that answer.”

The clip starts off with Shay spotting her “favorites” approaching her cart. They make casual small talk, and Shay starts bantering with them, calling two of the men grumpy after they order their alcohol drinks. The men partake in bickering back and forth until one calls her nails a “dangerous weapon.”

Shay simply agrees and asks him if he pays for his wife’s nails. He replies that he pays for everything. Shay laughs and says, “As you should.” This seems to be the turning point of the video.

Shay herself seems to catch onto the man’s change in demeanor. She tells him that he “doesn’t look too happy” about paying for everything. He then says, “She spends 20 grand a month on bullsh–.”

Shay then asks if he and his wife have been doing “better.” At first, he is confused, but Shay reminds him of a conversation they previously had. She stitches a clip from 2024 where Shay warns the man that his wife might see the transaction on the credit card. He overrules it by saying they’re just “co-existing.”

He reinforces it with this video, and the other man says, “Steve, the only way he has sex is when he passes his wife, they say ‘[expletive] you, [expletive] you.” Shay looks taken aback, but the video cuts to another clip.

As the men wrap up their conversation with Shay, it seems one of them hands her a $20 bill as a tip, and Shay thanks him. She then pokes fun at him, telling him to keep paying for his wife’s things. He immediately says “nope,” and Shay asks why.

“I don’t care about her,” he says nonchalantly. Shay bursts into surprised laughter and just shakes her head, saying, “Oh my God.”

What Do Viewers Think?

The top comment worries about the wife more than anything. “Imagine the wife seeing this,” reads the comment with over 1,400 likes.

It also seems to open up the discussion of how men treat their wives outside their proximity. One viewer says, “Ladies, here is proof that men hate us.” A second one shares, “Sadly this is 90% of men. If asked if they like their wives they will say no.”

On the other hand, some viewers say they would kill to be in that relationship. One viewer says, “As long as that 20k hitting, don’t care for me all you want.” While another says, “’I don’t care about her’ Bur yet, he’s okay with her spending 20 grand a month on BS. That sounds like a pretty awesome husband.”

One viewer speculates, “I just know his wife is there for the money, good for her.”

“Shoot I’m co-existing for free. Where’s the 20K at. Sign me up,” jokes another.
