Unique ruling as leader Cam Young calls penalty on himself | Cadillac Championship | 2026

In the final round of the 2026 Cadillac Championship, Cameron Young brings over an official before hitting his second shot at the par-4 second hole. Young deems the ball moved at address, leading to a one-stroke penalty. After the penalty taken, Young is able to save par and stay 15-under par at the time.

The PGA TOUR heads back to the iconic Trump National Doral for the Cadillac Championship, marking the return of the famed “Blue Monster” for the first time since 2016. As the first of back-to-back Signature Events leading into the season’s second major, the field is stacked, led by world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, who arrives in strong form after a playoff loss at the RBC Heritage and consecutive runner-up finishes. There’s plenty of firepower behind him. Collin Morikawa continues a red-hot run of results, while Cameron Young brings elite form highlighted by a win at THE PLAYERS Championship. Meanwhile, Chris Gotterup remains one of the standout performers of 2026 with multiple victories already this season. A major storyline comes from Alex Fitzpatrick, who earned entry into this Signature Event run after teaming with brother Matt Fitzpatrick to win the Zurich Classic of New Orleans. Past success at Doral also returns to the spotlight, with Adam Scott, the 2016 winner back on the Blue Monster, joined by former champion Justin Rose. With FedExCup points, Signature Event status and major momentum all on the line, the Blue Monster once again presents one of the TOUR’s toughest and most iconic tests.

  1. People use rules to gain benefit eg dropping out of knee high rough to FW only because there was a sprinkler head in the rough. Yet what happened here would have made no difference and he got penalised for that….

  2. Stupid rule to penalise someone for that. Even if it rolled 6 inches forward, that isn’t impacting the outcome of the hole. Just put it back and hit the shot.

  3. OK, Cameron did not say that he felt like he caused the ball to move…he said that he can't say one way or another. C'mon announcers…In my opinion unless you are doing something stupid the ball moving isn't your fault. you have no control over whether or not the ball perches on a high spot on grass or not and then rolls off that precarious position

  4. Hmm. Interesting. He said the lie was basically perfectly teed up on some of the grass that perhaps was a bit higher. He didn't notice every blade of grass underneath his ball so its 100% certain he had no way of knowing grounding his club behind the ball would cause it to move. This is a dumb rule. Off the fairway I could understand. Moral of the story don't ground your club in the fairway? Ridiculous.

  5. Should have asked Patrick Reed he would have told him this is normal every day happening in his world!! Love the honesty and speaks to the type of person Cam is, pure class act.

  6. This needs to be taken out of the game. Pro golfers take 250+ shots in a tournament, and victory almost always comes down to one or two shots. Having the competition decided by mud balls or the ball scooting a millimeter is not the intent of the game. I wouldn't think any less of a player who didn't report himself for that.

  7. As someone who has played a high level of competitive golf I can tell you this about what occurred. That is a class act and what separates golf from other sports. Having been in that situation myself when the rules official asks you a question you will answer honestly. Which he did. When he gave the answer I don't think so, there will be a penalty. If he gave a definitive answer such as no absolutely not, then there would be no penalty. Remember, the tour did away with people calling in from home to report alleged infractions.

  8. The owner of the golf course would have kicked the ball after dropping one from his pants leg, then used a sharpie for “creative accounting.” You know it. Anyone see the irony?
