MESA, Ariz. – The North Dakota State men’s golf team carded the lowest round in the field to climb into the leader position after the middle round of the Summit League Championship at Longbow Golf Club on Monday afternoon.
The Bison (286-283—569) hold a six-shot lead over the championship field after two rounds of action. NDSU carded the only sub-par round of -1 for the day to take the lead at +1 overall, with Denver (288-287—575) the runner up at +7.
Gabe Benson (74-66—140) fired the lowest round of the field on day two to lead the Bison. Benson started off hot, firing six pars and three birdies in the front nine to open the round. The Fargo, N.D., native carded his only bogey of the round on hole 10, before adding three birdies and five par holes to finish off his career-low second round. Benson soared 23 spots up the leaderboard after finishing -5 on the day and is in a tie for the leader position heading into the final round.
Jake Skarperud (73-71—144) logged a round of even-par to climb inside the top ten after the second round. Skarperud logged a clean front nine, picking up eight pars and a birdie on the fourth hole. The senior then recorded two bogeys in the back half of the round, along with six pars and another birdie on the 13th to finish even on the day. Skarperud climbed ten spots up the leaderboard to finish in a tie for 10th at +2 overall.
Carter White (72-73—145) is positioned just one shot behind heading into the final round of the event. White opened the round with a birdie and three pars, before hitting a rough patch in the middle of the round. The freshman then carded three straight birdies in the back to finish +2 on the day. White is currently slated in a tie for 15th at +3 overall heading into the final day.
Rylin Petry (73-73—146) matched his round from day one to record the final scoring round for the Bison on day two. Petry was clean through the front nine, carding nine straight pars to start the day. He added five more and a birdie on the 15th to finish +2 on the day and is locked in a tie for 19th at +4 overall.
Andrew Ballou (68-76—144) is the final NDSU golfer for round two. Ballou recorded a pair of birdies in the back nine to finish +5 on the day. The freshman currently sits inside the top 10 in a tie for 10th at +2 overall going into the final round.
The Bison will conclude the 2026 Summit League Championship tomorrow morning, with the first pairings scheduled for a 9 a.m. CT tee off.
