The watchdog group DC Preservation League has filed an emergency stay to halt the Trump administration’s reported plans to shut down the course.
WASHINGTON — There is growing uncertainty at the East Potomac Golf Course in D.C. and big changes could come as soon as Monday.
East Potomac Golf Links is a popular public course in the District that has been under threat of a possible federal takeover by the Trump administration for months. The D.C. Preservation League, a watchdog group, fears planned renovations that would give the course a championship-style layout could make the links too expensive for local golfers.

Now we are learning that a closure of one of the District’s three public courses could come as soon as Monday.
A spokesperson for the National Links Trust, a nonprofit that operates all three of D.C.’s public golf courses, including Rock Creek Golf and Langston Golf Course, said news of the closure was a shock.
“This news was a complete surprise to us. We have also not received any offer of a lease at Rock Creek Park Golf. For the sake of our community and employees, we hope to have clarity as soon as possible,” the spokesperson said. “We remain committed to our mission, our community, and working to protect the public golf courses in Washington, DC for the benefit of the entire community.”
The D.C. Preservation League filed an emergency stay on Sunday to halt the Trump administration’s reported plans to close the course.
A judge has now ordered the government to respond to the claims and set a hearing for 8 a.m.
WUSA9 reached out to East Potomac Golf Links on Monday morning. A pro shop manager says the course is open and accepting tee times as normal until told otherwise.
