Matt Fitzpatrick is playing some incredible golf, but you might say he breaks the mold of the modern day swing. My take? It’s in many ways a throwback to the classic golf swings of old, with an inside takeaway and a reverse slot move, kind of like Sam Snead and many other greats.
Some of these swings are my favorites! And in today’s video, we share our swing analysis. This was from a recent live coaching call for Online Academy members. Coaches, Ed Lasater and Henry Fall join me to break down Matt’s throwback action and how it works so well.

Striker! I like a lot of what he does.
No doubt Matt swings like an athlete!

His chipping is the opposite too so obviously his mind works more consistently this way. To each his own if it works.
Can you comment on his ball position. It seems far back in his stance (is that camera angle)?
Contrary to what youtube would leave one to believe, reverse slot is a very effective pattern. See Bruce Lietzke.
He is fun to Watch.many years ago I played with a fella who s swing looked like fellow who swing like Mathew he would take a lot of gamblers money!
there's an instructor down in new orleans, an italian guy, who teaches this grip. He likes a strong lead hand and "moderates" it with the trail hand hogan v on top. Well , fitzpatrick would be the number 1 example. us open.
