In this video we test whether the ultra-budget Shot Scope LM1 Launch Monitor can actually deliver reliable indoor performance, putting it head-to-head against the industry-standard Foresight GC3. After strong results in our outdoor testing, we bring the LM1 indoors to see how it handles shorter ball flight conditions using an 8-iron, wedges, and driver—where radar-based launch monitors typically struggle the most. We also evaluate whether premium golf balls like the Titleist Pro V1 and Titleist Pro V1 RCT golf ball impact accuracy, uncovering key insights about compatibility and performance. Throughout the test, we compare essential data points like ball speed, club speed, smash factor, and—most importantly—carry distance, which proves to be surprisingly consistent within just a few yards of the GC3. While the LM1 lacks advanced metrics like spin rate and shot shape, its accuracy for core numbers makes it a compelling option for golfers practicing at home or on the range. If you’re searching for the best budget launch monitor under $200 with no subscription fees, this in-depth indoor accuracy test reveals whether the Shot Scope LM1 is truly worth it.

  1. Do you have the LM1 set to the correct club based on the loft chart supplied with the LM1? Even though you are swinging and 8 iron you might need it set to a different club based on actual club loft. My understanding is that this is used to estimate spin and could effect the metrics. I don’t own an LM1, but I read some people discussing this in a forum.
For the price, I’m pretty impressed with the LM1. ⛳️ 👍🏻

  2. I’ve also got the LM1 , and I’m genuinely wondering if there might be a glitch in the radar software, because when I was at the Range testing it out for the first time, I used my friends Lazrus Black finish 56 degree Sand Wedge, and I actually managed to get a club head speed reading of 219.1mph. And this happened more than once. And this was set onto the appropriate SW setting. I’m actually surprised that after a few throws at 219.1 mph, I’ve still got my arms attached. It’s still a fantastic bit of kit though. Great channel too. Keep up the wonderful work. All the best.

  3. mine never reads unfortunately. only ever shows club speed also with rct balls and 8 foot of space to net from hitting zone. atleast now i know its a system thing

  4. Another early bird here.

So far, so good. Just a reminder: it’s Doppler-based, so wind can affect the readings. You won’t get the same numbers you would in calm conditions. Weather definitely plays a role in accuracy.

  5. When you said the LM1 costs 1/20th of the GC Quad I stopped for a second and did the math. It’s actually 1/35 the cost of the GV Quad. I missed buying one during the initial sale and I’m still upset with myself. I am returning to golf after an 8yr break taking care of my dying wife and then getting over that. I really want the LN1 to know my current carry distance a by club and to work on increasing my swing speed. I would never speed $7K on the GC Quad, but $200 is right up my alley. Unfortunately I have to wait for the May and/or June shipments to get one.

  6. Just an educated guess, but the system uses radar which is relying on a light wave bouncing off of the ball and club to read those speeds. Black pigment is intended to absorb more light than the nature raw metal, so if the monitor is calibrated to read a raw metal finish it might be affecting the club speed that the monitor is outputting. Also the reason that the driver wouldn't have an issue with this is because the vast majority of drivers on the market right now are darker colors and the monitor is likely calibrated for that. Given how accurate the club head speeds are for the raw irons and wedges as well as the driver I wouldn't be surprised if this is a software issue not compensating for the radar difference from the finish of the club. I'd like to see them talk about it at some point to see if they could release a software update for club finishes or if there is some other issue causing the discrepency.

  7. @ 6:59 I'm going to be honest. The total distance of the LM1 makes more sense than the GC total distance, an 8 iron probably shouldnt be rolling out 13 yards. You should be seeing 5-10 feet of roll out not 10 yards. Same thing happened with the wedge shot. GC is clocking you at 7 yards of rollout with a full swing 53 degree, that's illogical. The ball at most should 1 hop.

  8. For the wedge accuracy I think it comes down to loft. The 56 is flatter than the 44. It has less surface area at certain angles throughout the swing path for the radar unit to bounce the signal and read it. I wonder if he'd have the same issue with a 60°.
