Nelly Korda wins again, this time at LPGA’s Riviera Maya Open

Nelly Korda’s third career major victory resulted in a return to No. 1 in the world. On Sunday, she claimed win No. 3 of the 2026 season.

Korda opened the 2026 Riviera Maya Open at Mayakoba on Thursday with a 68, then followed that up with a pair of 67s to take a three-shot lead into the final round. Korda has yet to finish outside the top 2 in 2026.

It was just her second bogey of the week but no matter. Nelly Korda has now won twice in eight days and three times this season.

Korda sent her final tee shot of the week into the thick foliage down the right side of the 18th hole and had to hit a provisional, which ended up in a bunker. This sequence would lead to just her second score worse than par all week. But, it also comes with her leading by six shots.

Yu Liu is one of four golfers at double digits under par, but Liu is a whopping seven shots back with just three to go. Nice shot here, though:

She would save par there, giving her six pars in a row as she maintains a six-shot lead.

As the broadcast moves to network TV for the last seven holes, Korda still holds a six-shot lead. The LPGA reports only three instances of a player winning five or more shots after winning a major: Lorena Ochoa (2008 Corona Championship, 11 shots), Louise Suggs (1952 All-America Women’s Open, 9 shots), Se Ri Pak (1998 Jamie Farr, 9 shots).

Korda makes turn with 6-shot lead

After a wayward second shot, Korda managed to save par on the ninth to keep her six-shot lead with nine to play. The World No. 1 shot a bogey-free 32 on the front nine.

Augusta National Women’s Amateur champion Maria Jose Marin turned down an invitation to compete in the Chevron Championship, focusing instead on the SEC Championship. Now, the Arkansas player is battling for a top-10 finish in Mexico. Currently T-11 at 5 under.

We’ll just put this on repeat. Korda’s birdie at the par-5 seventh hole has 4 under on the day and 18 under overall. She now leads by six shots over Arpichaya Yubol.

On Monday, when the Rolex Rankings were updated, Korda was back in the top spot. It marked her seventh time taking over No. 1. She has collectively spent 108 weeks in the No. 1 position over the course of her career.

With a win, Korda would have 18 career LPGA victories. She would claim her third win in 2026 in six starts. Her other finishes this year are a solo second and two ties for second. Only two golfers have beaten her this season. Futher, a win would make Korda:
