Salvador Sanchez: The Greatest Mexican Boxer Ever (1959–1982)

Salvador Sanchez, an icon who reigned as the pound for pound king during his all too short career. He’s your favorite boxers favorite boxer. A lightning fast tactician who mastered the sweet science, and handed out beat downs to all the sports top contenders. Mexico has produced warriors of incomparable grit and heart. But standing above the pantheon of icons—beyond even the great Julio César Chávez for many—is the “Invincible Eagle,” Salvador Sánchez.

At just 23 years old, Sánchez wasn’t just a champion; he was a phenomenon. With the “Iron Lung” conditioning that allowed him to fight at a relentless pace and a counter-punching IQ that baffled the world’s elite, he seemed destined for immortality. Then, on a lonely highway in 1982, the story stopped.

In this original Bored Film documentary, we examine the life, the masterclasses, and the tragic finality of a man who died a prospect of greatness that had already conquered the world. We dive deep into the technical brilliance of the “Battle of the Little Giants” against Wilfredo Gómez and the heart-stopping final war against Azumah Nelson.

  1. Is Salvador Sanchez the greatest Mexican boxer ever? Gone too soon, this video is a long overdue look at the Legend. Hope you enjoy, also we're doing channel memberships now if anyone wants to support the channel that way. Thanks!

  2. I’ve said for over 10 years now, Mexico should forget soccer and invest all the money in “futbol” and but in the sweet science 🧪 🥊 🇲🇽….maybe one day of all of Mexico will realize they were made to throw hands not kick a soccer ball ⚽️

  3. This is why the Internet is necessary. Never even heard of Sanchez before I saw a video on YouTube. That guy was an absolute monster. I'm talking about your favorite boxers favorite boxer.

  4. Thank you Joe!!! I've been waiting for this video for a while. Your the best at what you do!!! Appreciate you showing Salvador Sanchez to many who don't know who he was!!! To me he could've been the greatest fighter ever if not for his early passing!!! growing up watching JCC Sr. I thought he was the best Mexican fighter but after I saw Salvador Sanchez fights. I saw the greatest fighter of all time in my opinion even though he died young!!! He just looked so natural in the ring as if the Boxing Gods created him!!! R.I.P to a Mexican legend!!!

  5. Was waiting for this channel to make a video about Salvador Sánchez. What a great gone to soon, the what ifs if he was alive. Would've been even greater especially for what he done by age 23

  6. Salvador Sanchez, one of the greatest boxers ever, will always be one of my favourite fighters. Thank you, Joseph, for the amazing video. Nobody does it better, baby

  7. His style was so beautiful, only 2 fighters I've seen that I never get tired of watching dance around the ring and flow their punches this legend and sugar ray Robinson 🥊🙏

  8. As always, Great job Mr. Vincent! You told his story very well and I'm happy I got to find out about Salvador Sanchez. I remember that clip from Roy but never knew the guy he referenced.

  9. Destroyed legends and at a young age he was an atg until his tragic death. Sanchez is the greatest ever. Just taken to soon but he was a perfect machine of destruction. What a legend

  10. In the pound for pound best ever conversation Sanchez quite possibly would have usurped Sugar Ray if he hadn't croaked so tragically young (23) as he had not yet reached his full potential, he was the best around by his early 20s!

  11. First thing first, i love your work man, i see the reserch. i never heard of Salvador before now, and i follow boxing and these images are simply…priceless. Thanx man, At 23 with a record of 44-1-1, is impossible right now. We can only imagine…R.I.P.

  12. I was a little bato, when I watched his fights. I especially remember the time when he beat Coloradito Lopez for the second time and Lopez put on Sanchez' head, his penacho at the end of the fight as an act of sportsmanship.

  13. Hey Joe. Hey JOE. You dont know how happy youve made me, and every other REAL boxing fan for that matter. Still….NOBODY brings it home like Joe Vincent….nobody.
