PGA Tour issues security alert as Donald Trump set for weekend appearance at Doral

Tournament officials at the Cadillac Championship have issued an “enhanced security” notice to spectators ahead of this weekend’s PGA Tour action at Trump National Doral, with U.S. President Donald Trump expected to attend.

In a statement released prior to Saturday’s third round, organisers urged fans to plan ahead and allow extra time when travelling to the venue, warning of increased restrictions both on and around the property.

“Those attending the Cadillac Championship on Saturday and Sunday should expect enhanced security measures and additional restrictions at and around Trump National Doral due to a U.S. Secret Service protectee,” read a tournament notice for spectators.

“Travel times to access the property could significantly increase. Ticketed attendees are strongly encouraged to arrive earlier. Upon entering Trump National Doral, spectators will be subjected to TSA-style screening at the Main Entry, Downtown Doral Entry, and in select areas on course. Attendees are encouraged to minimise personal items and review the list of prohibited items prior to arrival.

“Ticketed spectators should monitor official Cadillac Championship and local government social media channels for the most up-to-date information leading up to the weekend.”

The increased security presence comes amid expectation that President Trump will be on site at Doral, with temporary flight restrictions indicating an arrival in Miami at 6:30 p.m. local time on Saturday and a departure scheduled for 8:30 p.m. on Sunday.

President Trump typically stays at his Doral resort when visiting the area.

The $20m Cadillac Championship marks the fifth Signature Event of the 2026 PGA Tour season and represents the PGA Tour’s first return to one of Trump’s courses since the WGC-Cadillac Championship in 2016 — also staged at Doral’s renowned Blue Monster.

In a notable on-site addition earlier in the week, a gold statue of the President was installed near the first tee, drawing plenty of attention from players and spectators alike.

The 28-year-old American has fired rounds of 64 and 67 over the first two rounds to reach 13-under par, giving him a five-shot lead.

He sits clear of a chasing pack that includes Jordan Spieth, Nick Taylor and Alex Smalley, while world number one Scottie Scheffler is seven shots off the pace at six-under par.

Young is chasing his second victory of the season, having won the PGA Tour’s flagship event, The Players Championship, in March. The world number four will now look to convert his strong position under what promises to be a highly scrutinised and tightly controlled weekend at Doral.
