Robert Cotterill said him and his friends make it a tradition to take the first tee time of the season.

“It has been a long winter, so let’s just say that it didn’t matter what the weather was like today, as long as it wasn’t snowing, we were going to be here,” he said.

Cotterill said he plays around 70 rounds of golf every season.

Mickey Kupchyk already spent some time out at the driving range this year.

“Just to bunt it around for a bit, and it looks promising, but it always does at the beginning of the season, then something happens, and it drops off, and then it comes back again.”

Kupchyk said he plays around 100 rounds of golf every year and has a big goal for 2026.

“I turned 71 this year, so I’m gonna shoot my age this year. I missed it by one stroke last year, so that is the goal,” said Kupchyk.

“It’s very hard. I’m gonna say there’s probably maybe one per cent of the population that can do it, of guys playing scratch golf; there’s not that many of them.”

Conway Samuelson said he is excited to be back out with his friends.

“It’s been a long winter, and it’s great to get out again,” he said. “We have a lot of fun joking around and golfing.”

While this group of men might be in their 70s, they all still walk all 18 holes dozens of times every summer.
