Rocco Mediate shares a swing tip that Sam Snead gave to him at the practice area at the 2001 Masters at Augusta National. Snead asks if Rocco thinks about moving his right shoulder towards the ball in the downswing.

I know this may be incorrect, but it looks like he sways a little off the ball on the take away
Holy !@#$.
My swing been messed up for long time. (Fat, thin, shank city)
I've heard this stated before but my subconscious was just like he said…if you think about pointing your right shoulder down at ball your like "no way man! club head is going to bury itself in the dirt! Im not doing that! I already hit fat shots".
Well like a week ago this just popped into my head.
I went shoulder to shoulder at the ball and I couldn't believe it!
I was hitting nice solid straight compressed shots with nice little divot after the ball!
Now mind.you, if you forget to start with your hips first (usually because of.some other.swing thought) you can still hit.fat shots…but wow, this move was a game.changer for me!
Bravo!
I would classify this under a feel of "staying on top of the ball"
I watched this video this morning having never picked up a golf stick before and I shot a 78 at my local par 73 18 hole golf course.
The guy who I had to buddy up with couldn’t believe that I’d never played golf before.
Anyhoo, I shared this video with him and hopefully his game will improve.
I think he's talking about correct shoulder plane..?
I’ve just played my second ever round of golf, and thanks to Rocco’s advice I beat my previous best by two shots.
I’ve always been athletic and thought I’d have the potential to be good at golf, but my progress so far feels ridiculous.
Thanks again Rocco
Sam Snead was pretty good lol
Rocco hits a steep pull draw or cut… you’re welcome 😅
This how you fix hooks
This is just how you compress a ball, if you are right handed. In order to do it, you essentially have to get the club moving low and to the left without coming over the top. It "feels" like your right shoulder is attacking the ball, but too many throw their whole body over it and then you are over the top. It's literally just your right side. For Hogan it felt like his right hand. Hard to do until you groove it then it's EZ.
@classicgolfswing @christogarcia
Ugly but effective swing, putting and chipping save his lack of power
There’s a fine line between that way and OTT (shank)
So you play by feel, and really have no idea how the swing works.
That's a good tip, i'm gonna try it.Hopefully it works
The irony of him saying he's trying to swing with his body when his arms clearly disconnect from the body and ride up. It's a feel versus real in golf, which is why one feeling that helps one person can be disasterous for another.
Looks like an awesome simple tip.
Great stuff
I've been playing golf for 30 years, and this is the best tip to improve my ball striking that I have ever heard. I can feel the power of the swing when I throw the right shoulder to the ball. It also helps me maintain the 90 degree angle on the downswing. I wish I would've known this 30 years ago. Where were you Rocco when I needed you?
Exactly what Chuck Cook teaches about the right shoulder: to the wall (behind you, in the backswing), to the ball (in the downswing), to the target (in the follow through).
Thank you I will try that tomorrow because today, at the range, things weren't great.Let's just leave it at that😂
Great recipe for a slice!!!!
“I’m a b”
Ben Hogan hit at least that many greens in a row at the 1960 U. S. Open per Jack Nicklaus and others!
Probably best not to use Rocco mediate as an example of how to swim a golf club.
Most beginners and high handicappers need to prevent the right shoulder from going towards the ball. Until after the initial vertical drop
Right shoulder to the heel, right shoulder to the ball, right shoulder to the flag ! Chuck Cook
his right shoulder in his swing actually drops straight down firstly, this is a feel
"Trying to move the club with my body", This concept is a prescription for disaster as many already know. Start the swing with hands/arms/shoulders and the body follows.
I guess the right shoulder going towards the ball is just the same as a swing with only your trail arm where it is virtually impossible to come over the top. Good thought. Works for me too.
His swing is so idiosyncratic that I would be hesitant to try and take it as a model for emulating…
